This book is loaded with tuneful folk songs. Starts by teaching easiest notes to play on the flute: G, A and B. Accompaniment CD is just the right tempo. Mixture of both solos and duets.
I honestly didn't see why this book was so great when it first arrived. I only knew some of the songs. Compared to her Yahama flute book, this book seemed more boring since we knew almost 100% of the songs in the Yamaha book. I put it aside. HOwever, my daughter has a completely different opinion! When she discovered this book, she clutched at it, hugging it to herself and talking to me about why this was such a great book. She gave a concert of 5 songs and she sat on the couch singing the songs. She plans to take it to her teacher, in the hopes that her teacher will teach primarily from this book instead of her Yamaha book. After observing this book I can see now why this book is so wonderfully appealing to a beginning flutist:1. The songs have all the words! This way she can sing the songs, or I can sing while she plays, and if a song is new, she can just learn the song. This provides variety.2. The print is very large and easy to read. Sometimes she has to really lean in to read the newer notes in her other book.3. The book only introduces one or two notes at a time, with a nice little chart saying, "new note" and a picture of the flute, and which keys to press.4. Each section has many new songs to play which include the new notes.5. The book itself is inviting with whimsical illustrations which appeal to a child instead of intimidating them.6. The book is also physically attractive for a child, with a thick, durable cover, and thick pages which do not flop or tear.
