This was the first book that I read when considering homeschooling my elementary-aged children. It's important to understand what this book is and what it is not.First, this book is NOT a step-by-step, "how to homeschool." It will not provide resources, curriculum options, schedules, etc. For that, you can turn to a book like "The Well-Trained Mind."Instead, what this book offers is primarily two things: (1) a philosophy of a child-centric education, particularly an ideal elementary education; (2) a summary of Charlotte Mason's philosophy on education. When I say "child-centric," I mean that the author's perspective is that education must be founded on the principle that each child is uniquely created by God and therefore is worthy of respect. Children should be treated as intelligent creatures and fed the best educational experiences possible --- they should be reading the best literature, listening to the best music, viewing the best art, experiencing nature whenever possible. Much of their day should be filled with play, preferably outdoor play, where they can experience for themselves God's creation. The author's philosophy is inspired by Charlotte Mason, and her extensive writing on education. For readers who want an introduction to Charlotte Mason's writings, this book provides numerous excerpts from Mason's volumes.The book also serves as a reminder of the true purpose of education, as a life and habit. Children should be inspired to become life-long learners.While the book could use some editing, as it does not naturally flow between and within chapters, it is an essential read for parents, whether homeschooling or not, who are passionate about providing a quality education to their children.

This book has revolutionized my thinking regarding my children's education! I homeschool 5 children, and after reading this book, our upcoming school year will be much different. There are so many things in this book that opened my eyes and made me rethink everything! I love Charlotte Mason's views on children and their education, and this was the book that introduced me to it all.

I just can't get through the book even though I love Charlotte Mason. This author give poor Biblical advice. The chapters are way too long and need to be broken up. She spoke more of her opinions than CM and I do not thin CM would always agree. It just wasn't for this homeschooling Christian Mama.

I really enjoyed this book. It is sort of a compilation of advice Mrs Macaulay has learned through the teachings she has read of Charlotte Mason. It is written in a poetic way with a lovely use of words and contains some very good advice for providing a successful learning experience for children, whether in school or at home.Some points I have learned (not all necessarily new but a reminder anyway) are:-Read the bible to my children everyday. No little sermons or Sunday school fluff, just the bible. And only a couple of verses or within the child's ability to sit still and listen. Sermons are not necessary aside from church when our lives are reflective of our Christianity.-Read good books to my children that may seem to me above their level. Read quality chapter books to my preschooler and have her retell what she is getting from the story. This should only be for short periods a day, maybe 10 minutes. Just as long as she likes. And have her draw pictures if she likes of what she's getting from the book. She may not take from it what an older child will, but she will take something from it, and it will be her's. We shouldn't underestimate the abilities of our children to comprehend good books.-Make lots of time for outdoor explorations.-Treat my children as friends. They are "born persons", and we are equally under the same law of God. Teach that we both answer to God's law, and be an example. We both have things to learn from each other or together.-Learning is not a race. Have high expectations, but at a level that is "appropriate to the individual who is progressing at his own rate of development".-Let the child learn things for learning's sake or for "his own sake", not because of the expectations of others or in competition of others' abilities.-Teach that we must do things that are right by God's law. We do not "merely boss the child about for our own convenience".-"Law restrain[s] from evil, and love impell[s] toward good"-Create an atmosphere of friendship, acceptance, security, and creativity where the child is comfortable with who she is and can flourish by sharing in worthwhile studies with people who like her "as a person".I have already begun following some of the ideas introduced with my 3 year old daughter. The result? My daughter is understanding bible verses above what I ever believed she could. No fluff or coloring sheets, just raw bible. She gets it, and she's repeating the verses to me in appropriate circumstances! I have also begun reading the book "Black Beauty" to her. She likes it, and she understands it. Today when she asked to see a picture of the boy throwing sticks and rocks at the horses, I told her there was not a picture of this. So she decided we should draw our own illustration of this scene. We did so together, and I made a speech bubble for the master, in which she dictated what the master would say in our picture. I wrote in her words, "You're bad. I don't need you here. Go home, and be bad at your house!" Her dictation was a clear correct summary of what the master said in the book, which was, "You're a bad boy to chase the colts! But you won't get the chance to do it anymore. Take your pay and go home. I don't need you here." She clearly understands this classic, which is well above the level of what most 3 year old children are read. The reason we don't usually read these books to children is not because of their limited ability to comprehend but because of our underestimation of our children. I believe any child can prosper and benefit from being respected, challenged, and not having her abilities underestimated and undermined. I feel blessed to have read this book and plan to use the points I've learned in homeschooling my children.

This book reveals the incredible wisdom and philosophy of education formed by Charlotte Mason, a teacher in England around the turn of the 20th century. Susan gives you a good grasp of Mason's principles that I have followed in homeschooling for 25 years, but these same principles can (and should!) apply to private and public education. Education is about lighting that fire, not filling the bucket. If you want your child to be full of information, this is not the educational philosophy for you. To quote Charlotte Mason, "It doesn't matter how much they know, but how much they care." CM viewed children as real persons, and her educational system reflects that. This is not un-schooling, though there are some commonalities, such as delight in learning. This is not classical education, though there are some commonalities, such as reading great books. But CM's philosophy of education, in my opinion, far surpasses un-schooling and classical education. It offers a balance of structure and freedom, and you will never find your children mechanically memorizing anything without understanding (which I consider inhumane). Rather than just select curriculum and homeschool, why not develop a solid philosophy of education that will be a rudder to your ship through the years, and will help you make all your curriculum choices? I can't recommend this book enough.

About the Author

Christopher Boswell is the executive chef of the Rome Sustainable Food Project. Between this book and "Sauces and Shapes," you will be absolutely set for making any type of pasta you want. I like this book because it's a bit heavier on technique than most pasta cookbooks I've come across, and anyone who makes pasta can tell you that your technique is much more important than your recipe. The best pasta recipe in the world will get mangled when a cook who doesn't know how to put it all together. That being said, the recipes here are also delicious. I very rarely find myself needing to adjust the ratios of certain ingredients.

After taking a pasta making class in Florence, I put a few pasta books on my Christmas list. Though the others are good, this is my favorite and the most practical if learning is what you want to do. Each recipe has a brief but action-oriented paragraph with cues on when to add the pepper, why to buy canned tomatoes over tomato sauce in the off-season, etc. While the other two have great narratives and fun facts, this one is the teacher and reminds me of our chef in Florence.

I was surprised when this book first arrived how tiny it was, only about 7x6x1 inches, not my idea of a full-sized cookbook at all, but looks are deceiving. I have recently started making my own pasta and have been eagerly buying pasta books since, and this one is definitely an instant favorite. Starting with the most basic recipe, how to season your oil for the sauce, I was learning things no other book was teaching me about how to properly cook pasta and other Italian food. Every recipe in here is worth a try, just reading through the contents is enough to make you salivate. Definitely what you might call "restaurant quality" dishes, the kind of food more than worth spending money on. A great read, and an even better cooking-guide.Highly recommended.

Made my first homemade pasta noodles about 4 months before buying this book. Not coming from a family that cooked Italian food, I really only knew about spaghetti with red sauce, lasagna, and Alfredo sauce. The books starts off with a basic soffrito, then builds off of that. The recipes are great, but I often have to find substitutes for certain ingredients (same with the soups book from the same Academy).I’m not a much of a cook, but I’ve built some confidence using this book.

Yes, the font is EXTREMELY small as stated in the description by seller. BUT totally worth it! Having a complete Mahabharata in ONE book is huge! Suggest also purchasing a "sheet" magnifier so reading is MUCH easier. Personally, LOVE having an early translation - makes interpretation to modern terms a bit easier for me at least, but I look at this publication from an academic perspective...

One one hand, this is all of the Mahabharta. On the other hand it’s very tiny. I suppose its uniqueness is that it’s the whole thing, however. The translation is rather dated, but then again, there aren’t many complete translations out there in the first place. Table of contents is limited to just the Parvas, not the contents with the Parvas but other ways appears to be accurate. But, considering this is a lot of content and it’s cheaper than what one would pay for a new hardcover these days, and given the exorbitant amount one must pay for a decent complete Mahabharata, this is a pretty good buy if you want to go cheap.

Wow. I can't believe only one other person has reviewed this. I picked up this book looking for some direction to living out my newfound faith and belief that was most akin to my own inquisitive nature, and was overall impressed with Malcolm Boyd's approach to speaking to the Lord Jesus.There is a certain poetry and eloquence to much of it that I'm sure was intentional and makes it more accessible ("Save us from ourselves; spare us the evil of our hearts' good intentions, unbrideled and mad..."), but more than just hollow, pretty words, its really the searching, the uncertainty, the humanity in it all that seems most close to how the average Christian prays on their own. I'd reccommend this. It was what I was looking for. Boyd writes at one point "I want to pray in my doing and being, Jesus". These are words I've absorbed into my own daily prayers.

I love this author. The Church and society tried to stop him from being Malcolm Boyd. He held on tight to Christ and survived all attempts to shut him up. Yes, Jesus ran with him while others ran against him.

Malcolm Boyd writes from his heart exposing the anguish and the questions that all of us experience. These are not feel good prayers these are the prayers of the questioning soul.

Reading these prayers and reflections brought me back to my early Seminary days in the Roman Catholic Church. Malcolm Boyd's insightful and challenging perspectives of a world in dire need of change insipired me to become a Priest and today as an Episcopal Bishop. These spiritual reflections and cultural challenges embolden me to act justly and serve God's people to this very day. The saints truly live among us if we only we listen carefully, look critically and pray deeply.

Remember this from Jr. High days. full of very good prayers. relevant today and very thought provoking. a very good read indeed.

I read the original version when it first came out, and found it applicable then to the challenges of race relations, a war that really wasn't necessary, and an economy that seemed bent on more riches while tossing off employees once past a certain age or income level, unless one went to certain schools, or played politics. Malcolm has done fine with his revision, and his message, that we're still valuable, that life has meaning, and we've not been abandoned, still comes through. His approach to whatever one calls his/her Source of Life is most assuredly well thought out. It is not so much how long the prayers, or the wording, or even the approach taken. It's whether, after one is done 'praying', in whatever manner that be - and no one form, person, or even strain of Christianity - it is the sense that the paryer is heard, believed, that counts.

A lack of clothing and guns and ammunition made him a real prisoner of the deep dark wilderness of Pennsylvania and an open target to any British, Indian or wild animal force looking for prisoners or a quick meal. No money, no food and no relatives or friends to call upon for the very bare necessities of life. How could one so young, inexperienced and ragged rebel avoid sudden capture and death if captured by the British Army, Tories, highwaymen,Indians or natural enemies? What challenged him to continue the venture to save his parents and simply survive the cold wilderness is what legends are made from.Well, he wasn't alone. There were plenty of other young lads out in the cold with one desire and that was to avoid capture and survive the British, Indians and challenges of the Revolutionary War. And what is really amazing is that these young men were able to survive in great enough numbers to help defeat the British, pacify the Native Americans and make a major contribution to AMERICA'S ULTIMATE VICTORY. I am mostly writing a review regarding appropriate reader age and maturity. I purchased this book to read aloud to my 12 and 7 year old for American History. I enjoyed the detailed descriptions of the woods and the skills. Also loved the post chapter chapters with history lessons. But the book is very graphic. I am usually prepared for such accuracy and welcome it as part of the true story. But I had to edit so much of each paragraph that I gave up at chapter 6. Lots of details about murders and scalping. My review is not negative just informational. I would not allow my students under the age of 14 or 15 to read this book.

I am reading this with a group of eighth grade special education students with mild learning disabilities, and they are truly enjoying this book. It is helping them to understand their current Social Studies content while also engaging them in a deeply emotional and exciting journey. Thank you, Gary Paulsen, for capturing the interest of reluctant readers with a very important story to tell. You've once again enriched my classroom.

His review is below:I think the book was fine because it's educational and suspenseful, and it shows how things were like back in the war between the Americans and the British. The reason I didn't give it four or five stars was because it did not have much excitement, and things moved kind of slowly. Well written, fast paced story. The main character is relate-able and likable. I appreciate the fact pages interspersed into the book these pages tell the facts and some figured of the war. Supports the fictional story is based on real events with factual details.

This was an amazing historical novel that teaches our young readers about some of the struggles families had during the Revolutionary War. It teaches them that we need to care for other people around us, and we can accomplish more than we ever thought possible if we try hard. The story is engaging and keeps the action flowing. Our young readers won't want to put the book down. It is short enough not to overwhelm struggling readers.

I was reading this with my students. This helped save my voice. The reader uses great expression. Abner's accent was perfect.

This is an excellent, well-written book that tells the story of the cocaine addictions of Sigmund Freud and William Halsted. The author is both a medical doctor and professor of the History of Medicine, and his expertise in both fields clearly shows through in this delightful and informative book. The book provides mini-biographies of both men as well as a history of cocaine. The book is indeed an anatomy of the addiction of these two men, both to cocaine and to morphine, which they took to mitigate the effects of the cocaine. The book details the impact these drugs had on their lives, and also discusses the subject of addiction in general, which I though gave important insights into this subject. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in a good biography, the history of medicine, or in a well-written non-fiction book.What is in the book (spoiler alert) -While Freud appears to have eventually overcome his addiction, whereas Halsted appears to never have been completely able to do so and required daily morphine injections to eliminate his cravings for cocaine. There is evidence that he periodically went on cocaine binges, requiring a lifetime of morphine addiction. Contrary to what is sometimes reported, cocaine did not improve either man’s abilities - much to the contrary, the brief sense of euphoria and improved concentration that they believed the drug gave them was more than outweighed by the crash and depression that followed high the drug gave them. Furthermore, the sense of improved concentration and insight that they initially believed the drug gave them proved also to be illusory.Freud eventually gave up the drug after it almost led to the death of a patient, which could have ended, or at least stifled, his medical career. Halsted had to check himself into a mental hospital to rid himself of his cocaine addition, but he relapsed and had to do this several times, eventually settling on periodic cocaine binges and a lifetime of morphine addition. Halsted’s addiction shortchanged his patients, the students he was training and the medical profession in general and is an object lesson in the danger of addiction of any kind. It is unclear how much of Freud’s ideas were cocaine fueled, as much of his work was done after he stopped taking the drug, but it is clear that it was of no real benefit to his thinking.The only positive feature of cocaine was its use as a topical anesthetic, which revolutionized dentistry and eye surgery. Freud mentioned the use of cocaine as a local anesthetic in his treatise on cocaine, Uber Coca, but it was a colleague, Carl Koller who pioneered its use as an anesthetic for eye surgery, thereby gaining the acclaim that Freud regretted missing out on because he was focusing on the psychoactive aspects of the drug. Freud considered cocaine to be a wonder drug, only to become personally acquainted with the ultimately destructive and dangerous aspects of its use. Cocaine as an anesthetic has largely been replaced by synthetic drugs such as Novocain and Lidocaine, which preserve the anesthetic qualities of cocaine, without its addictive and psychoactive affects.

In finishing this book, which was hard to put down, sent me searching for other books by this author. It is one of the best presentations that I have read, complete with excellent notes, and close to 100 pertinent illustraions, The scholarship of this Medical Historian is extraordinary.While the focus is on two contemporay physcians, both trapped by the addictive powers of cocaine, Markel details enlightens us as to the ways of the era of modern medicine. Freud and Halsted (the premier surgeon-in-chief of the John Hopkins Hospital) belief that the super drug potentially capable of curing anything. It would bring them fame and fortune as a pharmaceutical. Sadly there personal trials brought them a debilitating curse. The study details the pathological dispersion of addiction in a manner that is very easily understood by a layman. Through-out the book is written to be understood, and the story line will captivate you. To readers,as myself, the author Markel may be addictive!

"An Anatomy of Addiction" by Howard Markel examines two famous doctors, Sigmund Freud and William Halsted and their addiction to cocaine. Freud, who invented psychoanalysis, the search for self-truth, became convinced that cocaine was a miracle drug with no side effects. Halsted, considered to be the father of modern surgery was probably the first cocaine addict to come to the attention of medical professionals in the United States. Peruvian Indians on the eastern slopes of the Andes have been chewing coca leaves for centuries. Their Inca ancestors used it in many religious rituals and initiation rites. Chewing coca leaves was found to have the remarkable ability to suppress hunger, increase tolerance, and stretch the bounds of human endurance, but is no more harmful than several cups of coffee. It wasn't until around 1860 that the devil was unleashed by a German scientist who converted the leaves into the highly purified coca alkaloid. If there is such a thing as an addictive personality, Freud certainly had it. He became so enamored with cocaine and fascinated with its effects on the mind that he considered it a treatment for morphine addiction and depression among many other ailments. Halsted was interested in the drug's anesthetic qualities and how it could aid him in surgery, so began experimenting on himself by injecting the drug into his arm. Both men consumed great quantities of the drug and eventually encountered serious problems because they had done so. At the time, the late 1800's, addiction as a bona fide medical diagnosis was not in the medical vocabulary. Freud struggled with this demon for twelve years and Halsted, it is speculated, struggled with cocaine as well as morphine addiction until his death in 1922. "An Anatomy of Addiction" is a fascinating read. It is a study in the diabolical power of addiction and the role cocaine played in the budding careers of two world-changing geniuses. Pros: Short (~180 pages) in full color. Easy to follow, big font, SMALL coding samples. You won't die trying to get through this book. Easy to make notes, not to lose interest, and to cover basic concepts one at a time so you can go back to youtube or a larger book to see each concept more in-depth. Keeps you organized. I'd say this book is geared towards children with all the color, but it greatly helped me (I'm 24).Cons: Covers the basics (great for beginners!) thus good only if you're a super beginner to programming in general. Also doesn't cover the basics in depth- just code, straight to the point. What it is and how to use it, no theory behind it. Some examples redundant or useless, and some things (ie the use of this->) isn't encouraged in the c++ community the way its illustrated. But again, not a big deal, and much of it is personal preference.Suggestion: If you're new to programming and are trying to pick up these skills, get this book. Get CodeBlocks or NetBeans or a similar platform downloaded, and get a git account (free) to upload your code online to GitHub. Git will keep you motivated to continue (you can track your status, etc). Good luck!

I started years ago with Mike McGrath's "C Programming in Easy Steps" I picked up in London before I found them in the USA.As a hardware designer more and more of my designs have embedded processors. Today most processors are supplied with reference designs, eval boards, and sample code including C++ code that runs under a OS on a host.What I needed was a top level guide to understand the sample code sufficiently to tailor it to my specific application and a reference to decipher the error messages as a result of my tailoring. McGarth's book was perfect. I have long since graduated to a book shelf of "heavy" C reference books which I use. But McGarth's book is within close reach for the occasion when I haven't used a function for a while and need a quick peek to remember the correct syntax.C++ Programming in Easy Steps has proven to be as useful as the C version as I tackle C++ sample code for a host OS application. The book’s format is very clean and well organized. Each section has at least one complete example and avoids generalized snippets that only a CS major would appreciate. He includes useful Tips and “Beware” to avoid common pit-falls many people fall into when first writing code. His books are not full of what is supposed to be humor as some are. They are very clear and to the point.If you are a student, hobbyist, old Fortran coder, or a hardware designer and need to bang out some rudimentary C++ code for a project this book is highly recommended.

I love this author, I've read a few of his other books, he gets right to the point and manages to teach all the basics and a little more. I wish he wrote more books though (maybe on Unity, please please!) =/I've read dozens of programming books over the years and his C++ and now this C# ones are two of my favorites.

Back in 1999 I took a class and C programming and found the process of programming very frustrating and confusing that I became a server engineer. Flash forward to today and I am forced to write a handful of apps for my Unix/Linux team which would save us time on mundane tasks. I picked up this book knowing that C was a major challenge for me in the past and I am very glad I did. This book clearly explains several concepts with which I could not grasp when I was younger and helpful in learning the C language. If you are interested in learning C as novice or if you are frustrated with other C books by all means get this book. There are a few errors but most of them are with function most beginners will not deal with such as memory manipulation.

I bought this book while trying to digest my textbook for class ("C++ Primer Plus" Fifth Edition by Stephen Prata), which is the highest rated textbook on the subject as of January 2012.Already versed in C and C#, I thought I'd take this class to finish my understanding of the C family.Not it is the most technical and diverse of them all, but also the most bulky and the most confusing.My textbook had a lot of words, like most textbooks, and not enough examples. I prefer to learn by being shown and being able to copy the programs and pick each bit apart. Needless to say without those types of examples aplenty, I was growing more and more confused and more and more behind in class.I pawed for a quick fix to my misunderstandings and low and behold, I find this quick guide.This book is amazing. The wording is easy, fast, and to the point. You can devour a chapter in less then ten minutes and have PLENTY of time to fool around with what you've learned after! This book told me in two pages how to write to and from a file where seven pages in my smaller-texted, bulky, wordy but yet five-stared textbook could not.BUY THIS BOOK! In a weekend you can easily become capable of comprehending and writing C++ programming and then just build on it while in class. If you are falling behind, you WILL catch up with this book to reference; Simple. Overall good into to C#, I used this book to freshen what I already knew. A concept the author did miss was in regards to the difference between class variables and instance variables. An example showing that would have made this book 5 stars.

The book is called "Easy Steps" but I find that it teaches more than "Easy Steps". The book briefly outlines every main components of C++ programming language, I like the arrangement of the book content in which the description of C++ content is printed on the left and the code is printed on the right. Very easy to follow, but if a beginner without any programming knowledge may feel difficult to read because when the more the reader read, the deeper the content of c++ is. After all, the book is organised as a very concise way in C++ programming book.

The book is nicely done. It gave me a lot of good ideas of items I might include in a Nature journal. For that, I found it very useful. The drawback to this journal is its size. There is not enough space for a given date for recording detailed nature observations. I still find it valuable, but the type of information that I plan to record needs more space. This book will serve more as my Index for a separate journal in which I record day-to-day details about the Nature I observe. That journal will contain pertinent weather data, records of plantings, sproutings, and harvests, animals and insects observed, and other similar data. There is far too much occurring out in the natural world for a single volume to follow for a five-year period. But, this provides a structure for what to observe, and will make an excellent index document.I also like the overall book design, and the quality of the paper and printing.

For those of you who find pleasure in observation and journaling, this book is a must. Subtitled “tracking changes in the natural world around you,” it is an informative and beautiful resource for observations and tracking of what is going on in your chosen habitat. And it is an autodidact’s delight, filled with useful and interesting information and crisp line drawings as illustrations.The authors are both academics as well as practitioners in the observation and understanding of the natural world. Their books are many and graced with notable awards. The wonder and curiosity of their studies makes for pleasure in reading.The book is a compilation of readings, drawings, and charts for the naturalist, be she professional, amateur, beginner, or professional. And it is just plain fun. The focus is on being attentive to the rhythms of nature.Attentiveness, or familiarity, is a basic requirement for the naturalist. What is significant in a habitat remains invisible without a genuine, direct, and contemplative connection with nature. And there is so much of note to observe.The authors suggest ways of becoming observant naturalists, experimental ways of learning, and how to truly know your own natural habitat. Where do you feel a sense of place? What do you see, hear, smell, taste, touch? Using these innate senses, we are led to a new appreciation of all that goes on in our own space. Recording these impressions enables development and insight into nature.A five-year calendar-journal is a necessary component to this book. It encourages self-learning. The calendar, with beautiful pen and ink drawings, is divided into sections which, place our observations in the realms of winter, spring, summer, and autumn.Rounding out the materials in this book are sections for your own personal glossary encouraging the use of abbreviations and symbols relevant to you, useful books, metric conversions, and timelines for the species and events you follow. This is a truly wonderful book to read, contemplate, and use for personal growth. Becoming a citizen-scientist as did Thoreau, creates a lasting and important record of nature.

When I saw this notebook highlighted in Birds & Blooms magazine this fall, started the search for vendors selling it. I have a daughter and a granddaughter who delight in the outdoors: everything from bird watching to, well name it; if it is enjoyed outdoors, they will enjoy it. Both were thrilled to receive this notebook for Christmas. In fact, granddaughter opened hers before daughter opened hers, and she had made note to find a copy for herself.

I previously had kept notes about nature on my daily calendar. However, it was difficult to compare from one year to the next. This book is great because it is super easy to compare from year to year. My only complaint would be that some days I need a little more space to write but I have learned to adapt to that. All in all, a great book.

The construction of the book itself is nicely done. The images are beautiful and the information is well-written. The lower star rating is because I desired more space to record my own observations. The only spaces for this are on basic calendar pages you could print off from any word or excel file; definitely NOT a calendar journal. They don't leave enough space for any detailed observations, so it's quite frustrating. I missed my window to return the book, so I'll just be donating it as it really has no use to me.

Beautifully bound, filled with useful information. Love it.The only suggestion I'd have in future volumes is to include a folder in the back cover where photos, sketches and additional written observations can be placed.

Beautiful book with wonderful information to get started observing. Nice idea of comparing five years of your own observations. Calendar set up covers all 5 years. Wish I had had this book when I was very actively nature watching. Maybe it will stimulate me to start again. A very well done book.

Beautiful illustrations. Information on various aspects of nature and room for notes on an ordered calendar section. A book for devoted nature observation. I'm torn between giving it as a gift or keeping it for myself!
