It is published in both noon and midnight versions, btw, so pay attention if it is important to you WHICH you purchase -- THIS one is midnight.Either would be fine for my level of usage - yours, too, if you're relatively new to the subject, unless you're working with a teacher who has a preference (s/he may want everyone in a class to have the SAME, so ask before you buy anything).Regardless of noon or midnight, for my money, anything Hand writes about or publishes is my FIRST choice on the topic (and I'm not alone in that thought, btw). So that includes this particular Ephemeris.FIRST, you get Hand's preface - that in itself is practically worth the price of the book. I learn something new every time I read anything written by this man.He begins by detailing the changes/additions in this version of the World Ephemeris for the [first half of the] 21st century: 1/1/2001 - 12/31/2050 -- containing considerably more info than the World Ephemeris for the 20th Century: * Moon both 00:00 E.T. and 12:00 E.T. * geocentric positions of (and daily declinations for) the 4 major asteroids and Chiron in addition to the "normal" planetary bodies, * Void-of-Course Moon data each month (with last aspect of the Moon in each sign plus time of entry into the next)- to name a few.You may not need that much detail right NOW, but you may want it later - and few astrologers would want more than one Ephemeris covering the same time period.The preface goes on to explain how to read this particular Ephemeris (*single* page per month, btw), before going into the differences between a lot of different ways of measuring time: Mean Solar Time, Universal Time, Greenwich Mean Time, Sidereal Time and Ephemeris Time - and how to use the Delta T Correction, for those who require extreme precision in chart casting (for inner planetary/Jupiter returns, for example).Now that science can measure more precisely, it is clear that the there are variations in the Earth's rotational speed (and that the net effect is that it has been slowing down), so that there are 1 or 2 "leap seconds" added each year - thus the need for Delta T. The premise put forth in the title is supported by some keen insights into "leadership by Calling" and comparisons to it with "modern leadership theory." Les Csorba writes about the danger of pursuing results without compassion; a point with which I agree. Unfortunately, some of the examples he chooses are questionable...After warning about the danger of weak character in powerful leaders, Csorba chastises German Chancellor Schroeder for turning back on some promises to George W Bush regarding the war on terrorism and then goes on to deride him for his four wives. Meanwhile he praises Jack Welch for going from Neutron Jack to a gentler Jack (which Jack says he would abandon if needed)while still making the "tough" decisions that got the "results" for the shareholders. Jack can change is mind and go back to compassionless results... OK. Also, there is no mention that Jack was getting results with his personal secretary whilst the wife was at home...Unfortunately the theme in Csorba's examples becomes one of bashing the mistakes of Democrats and forgiving the sins of the Republicans. He does sprinkle in some condemnation for a few wrong-minded Republicans in a meek attempt at balance. It's a shame that he turned this into a politcally tainted work. It started off so well.It started off well even though it will turn off readers who are not people of faith as faith is central precept to this book. It also started off well even though he chose to make George W Bush the role model for how to be a trust-able leader. Unfortunately this conservative/political bent turned an even harder right from there and kept going. It kept going to the point that I could no longer plan on sharing this book with some folks I know who really need it. They would simply say its a Bush-ie/right-winger book and dismiss the valuable and otherwise soundly argued premise. Too bad. Csorba almost had a classic instead of a politically tainted leadership manual.I say this even though I am Republican, am one of the few folks who would admit they were voting for Bush BEFORE the election, am a person of faith, and tend to find the Dems an easy target. But this book was supposed to be about so much more than Republican politics. Too bad.

This author, Les T. Csorba, is a Christian, served in the first Bush Administration, and knows what he's talking about. He says that true leaders are driven by a vision larger than themselves and the applause they might receive. As the book's title implies, Csorba thinks untrustworthy leadership is or should be an oxymoron.My favorite quote from this book is: "The `best and the brightest' only become the best when they are the modest and the moral as well." Csorba includes plenty of contemporary examples of leaders who failed the public trust, not only in politics, but in religion and business as well.This book is well documented and worthy of anyone's time who cares to learn more about leadership. I enjoyed and recommend it.

However for the ambulance driver, utility tech, delivery driver etc, this map is perfect.As far as the first persons complaints--again, they don't waste space with overlap, they keep the same scale on every page--no squeezing the little town into 1 page.You will get used to the page numbers on an everyday basis--they also can be looked up from the front map foldout, find area, look up number and go. It also is used for the CD usage.The roads are easy enough to follow if you note where they leave the previous page...but this is not the "in-town for a visit" map.Enjoy!

I LOVE this series, I adore Neil Gaiman for his deep imagination, and I bought the omnibus collection specifically because I wanted my own copies of the entire series. Omnibus' seemed more practical than individual volumes. Omnibus Volume one is masterfully crafted, I have no concerns over quality and for as large as these books are it truly feels as Volume one will last more than a lifetime. However after feeling and hearing the quality that went into making Omnibus Volume one, Omnibus volume two is completely disappointing. Externally they seem identical, same color pattern, likely same material, etc., so externally it appears as though it'll last as well as the first volume. When opening volume one, you feel the euphoric stiffness of brand new book binding. When opening Volume two, you feel terror that it'll fall apart in your hands. It's really depressing. The front cover swings open easily as though it's been opened thousands of times before, crinkling and cracking the whole time. Laying it on its spine, open to the middle, I find myself very concerned about whether or not it'll hold together. The individual pages seem fine, no printing errors have been noticed, but I may never open it again for fear the pages will soon fall out.

We ordered Volumes 1 and 2, having never read either before but having heard that the series was really good. Volume 1 arrived in great shape, and stayed that way as my wife and I each read through it. It felt durable, and it would easily lays open. But from the very first time we opened Volume 2, the binding has been creaking and cracking, and feels fragile. Unfortunately, the return window had ended by the time we finished Volume 1 and discovered the problems with Volume 2.I'm not even going to attempt to review the story, since that is so subjective, but, if you are someone who likes to curl up in bed with a book, this publication is a little too large and too heavy for that... We did compare our copy to a friend's publication that had the first ten comics, and this publication has crisper images and brighter colors, which make it both beautiful and easier to absorb.(We reviewed Volume I at five stars and Volume 2 at three stars for the durability issues)

Wraps up the second half of the Sandman saga in the second of two volumes- a much more rugged and interesting presentation in this hardcover edition compared to the mass market paperbacks. Looks great on your shelf too. Worth having even if you've already read the story once because of the many references Gaiman threw into this work.

Every time I open this book I fear it may be the last. If you're reading this you're obviously interested in Sandman already so I won't waste your time talking about the story. It's fantastic, we all knew that. Rather, I think it's important to note for new readers that the spine on this book is rather weak. Even though it's more expensive, I would recommend getting the absolute editions instead.

This volume is a work of art, both in presentation and in content. Neil Gaiman's Sandman series is already a known quantity, but even so, the stories still are engaging and frightfully still applicable to contemporary times. Some have complained about the binding. I have not yet experienced any problems with mine. But then, I have only read through it once, and quite carefully.

This will be a collectible. The binding is solid and the pages are laid out well. I know a newer paperback omnibus is out, but for the price difference, this is certainly better. Large, thick paperbacks show a lot of wear and tear, but this one will hold up well.

I LOVE the Sandman series so this review is nothing against the story or artwork itself, more so the way the book was put together. The first volume I bought was perfect, the binding was right and secure and durable.. but this one (the second volume) arrived HORRIBLY intact. The glue is undone on the spine of the book, there was tears and rips between the binding of the spine and cover page.. was really, really disappointing.

This omnibus contains issues 38-75 and is the companion to volume one. Neither of the volumes contain the Dream hunter comic or novel or the Sandman Overture. The orginal price of this volume is 150.00 U.S dollars so getting it cheaper anywhere is a blessing. But if you can find it cheaper its still worth the money. Its a big heavy leather bound collection that would make any Sandman fan happy.

The idea of a sixteen-year-old girl homesteading in Montana by herself - even a century ago - is startling by 21st-century standards. Hattie is so hard-working and committed that's it's hard to imagine the story could have happened in real life, although the author says it did, albeit with some alterations. Hattie's an admirable young woman, although not easy to relate to, in my opinion. During the first half of the book, I felt I was observing more than experiencing her life and circumstances. During the second half, she seemed more real, and I can't say whether somehow the writing changed or whether I changed. Eventually I felt invested in Hattie, and some parts of the narrative moved me deeply. As it happens, my husband's grandparents tried to start a farm in Montana around the same time as Hattie; they lost the farm, lost two children to measles, and returned home to Michigan sad and disillusioned. Hattie's story shed significant light on what my husband's grandparents may have had to endure. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it as helpful commentary on prairie farm life during the early twentieth century.

I use this book for an EFL literature class, and my students find it pretty accessible to them. I enjoyed reading it along with them over a five-week sequence, as it highlights a strong female character in a difficult environment. There's plenty of material in the book from which to garner discussion in class, something any EFL reading teacher looks for in their students as a sign of emerging fluency.The story itself has many layers and is indicative of the depth of a lot of good literature (which I use in class to contrast against early Disney movies, many of which are rather simplistic and straightforward). However, as a reader, I think some of those layers are incomplete. The WWI angle regarding Americans' fear of immigrants was broached but not with any sense of resolution. Not that there needs to be a happy, simple resolution, but the storylines regarding the story's main immigrant and the group of antagonists that sought to maintain their brand of patriotism seemed rather abandoned late in the book. There is a lot of historical context that Larson brings up without going really deep enough into parts of them that might have illuminated the plot further.Nonetheless, I think if readers are looking for a character that emphasizes the empowerment of women and (more importantly, as it turned out in this story) the empowerment of youth, Hattie Big Sky is a fairly extensive sketch of a personal narrative that should keep readers engaged. The main protagonist feels real without the sense of angst and embellished heroism we see in a lot of YA novels popularized and turned into movies. As a reader, I enjoyed the story, and as a teacher, I would recommend it to any literature teacher who is looking for alternatives to the Great Books that may be inaccessible to students who need a good stepping stone into deep extensive reading.

This book encourages readers to look past a person's name and appearance and to look deeper into the person's character. Another aspect of this book that I appreciated was that Larson fostered empathy for others though this pioneer's story.This historical fiction novel is a wonderful read that I encourage others to put on their book list!

How this is a New York Times bestseller is beyond me. I didn’t hate the book, but I didn’t actually like it either. I thought the writing was poor and a lot of the characters were underdeveloped. A lot of the time the author didn’t finish thoughts and I found myself confused as to who someone was or what was happening. The ending was terrible. So many loose ends and questions.

I liked this story because it speaks of a girl who went to an unknown area and persevered despite hardships she encountered. I got a small idea of what it must have been like for a person who was an American citizen, but with an immigrant past to be considered an enemy; despite not having done anything but being born abroad. I ❤ the book references to recipes and true experiences of those who actually settled this land.

Incredibly impressed with this historical fiction novel. Kirby Larson engages the reader into learning about homesteading life in "Hattie Big Sky." I appreciate the author's clever writing skills which capture both the attention of my tween kids and myself! Very well written, difficult to put down.

This is an engaging historical narrative about a young girl who attempts to fulfill her uncle's claim during WWI. It is very interesting to see how Hattie survives out on her own at such a young age, and also how she realizes that she is not really alone, but receives much help from kind neighbors, including a German immigrant who experiences racial prejudice due to his common nationality with the enemy during the war.

Hattie, orphaned and farmed out to various relatives, is just about to be forced to leave school and take up tedious work at a local store when she learns she has inherited a 320 acre farm. The farm is not without conditions, however. Hattie is required by the terms of the homesteading agreement to fence the land and plant a crop. She soon learns it will take real gumption just to survive the bleak Montana winter. A community of other homesteaders helps Hattie as she tries to make it in a small cabin through the freezing winter. Newbery Honor.
