A mostly fun volume in the series. Please note that the story at the end of the book ought to be read before the rest of the novel! Our 3 Druids mostly go their separate ways in this one, though they come together at the end. One plot arc from previous books seems to be finished (or is it?), but various others remain. All 3 Druids seem to be finding their place in the world, and what they want to devote their lives to- Atticus, the "Iron Druid" himself, perhaps the least of the three.Hearne does a good job of keeping the voices distinct, though Owen's in particular is somewhat affected in the "earthy and archaic" sense. Also, his sensibilities do not, I think, track those likely from someone who missed the last 2000 years... but he's a fun character. Granuaile has her own sets of problems, and her sensibilities are more modern than Atticus prefers. The dogs, while they add humor, are pretty simplistic. But then, I'm not really a dog person; my own dog does not seem to be subtle in her thinking the way cats are. However, these are supposed to be extra-ordinary dogs, and their conversation and interests are really too immature for that. it would be very cool if, at some point, the humans were NOT condescending to the dogs- especially if the dogs actually had a better handle on things than the humans did- which would be one of the benefits of such intimate cooperation, I'd think. If you are interested, do not start here. I think this book would be pretty inexplicable without the preceding ones. For fans of the series- you'll enjoy this.

I loved this series from the beginning. Atticus has a voice that carries, and it's this voice that has smoothed over thin plots and sometimes-thinner (and less-than connected) reasons for mayhem. But that rich and wonderful voice has been diluted. Eclipsed by a stronger, even better voice...that, I might accept. But diluted? No. Hearn is smothering his most engaging character while making room for narratives of far less value or resonance. Until the last quarter of the book, Atticus goes so far as to descend into the territory of "cute"--and that's always dangerous; rarely is it an acceptable substitute for the real thing. And that's the problem. I expected the real thing and got cute instead. It's like turning Luke Skywalker into jovial and slightly smarter Jar Jar Binks--unexpected, crazy unnecessary and immensely disappointing. The last fifty pages are the only ones worth reading, the only thing with anything at "stake." It's the only time anything of any real value actually happens in the book, and it's sad that the plot has to turn so suddenly and so sadly for the book to have any depth at all. Before those pages came along, though, I was seriously entertaining the idea of closing the book and not bothering to read any further--a heresy, I would have thought, prior to reading this volume in the series. But it had just gotten so BORING and so almighty shallow!!! Even a death that saddened me no end was better than continuing on the pablum road,so that should tell you just how bad it was to that point. Please please please, Mr. Hearn: cut the revolving-door dialogue and completely separate story lines. There's just not enough room in any one book to gloss over so much so quickly. Pick one person's story and TELL it with the depth and development it deserves. Instead of one book with three separate narratives, give us three books with a single character's in-depth development in each. For the depth this series needs to be exploring at this point in its mythology, the scatter-shot approach is just too unfocused and diffuse to end well.

Really enjoyed the whole series, and this one was ... not bad, exactly, but felt a little tired. Is it maybe time for Mr. Hearse to write something new? It's interesting to read the reviews highlighting the anti-fossil fuel chapter of the book (I'll try to avoid spoilers by being a bit opaque -- but if you've read the book, you know what I'm talking about). Um... Hello...?Is it really surprising that earth-worshiping Druids are (a) concerned about climate change and (b) might be in a position to do something about it? Frankly, it reads more false to me that Atticus is not willing to take more direct action. However, those commenters were right to flag that sub-plot as weak -- and frankly, a jarring addition to the book with little or no emotional payout. It's not weak because it addresses concerns over global warming, it's weak because it was poorly written. "Fierce Druid" or not, I find it completely implausible that Granuaile would risk her life (and the life of her hound!) on a morally dubious bit of gloating. (And yes, that's all it was -- the ecologically benefial events had already taken place). I expected her to regret the immorality of her actions as soon as she left, but no -- instead she just blithely moves on. As everyone knows (even those of us with happy parental relations), disputes with our parents are not put so easily aside.

So far I have really enjoyed all of the Iron Druid series until this one. It was a lot of pages of nothing just to wrap up the meat the story in the last 20 pages. "Staked" is the wrong title for this book. It should have been called "Miscellaneous".To much back and forth between the main characters narratives to be anything substantial. Hearne needs to go back and read the first books in the series and recapture what he did right in those. Either that, or change it to the "Iron Druid and those 2 other guys Chonicles".

With m/m romance novels, I feel like I have to kiss so many frogs to find a prince, but when I do, like Milo, it's so worth it. What did I love?(1) Milo: I love that LM could realistically draw this character who is both strong and snarky (a fitting best friend for Oz), but also tremulous and shy and self-doubting. It allowed us to see Milo as more than a match for confident, charismatic Niall, without making us feel like he'd had a lobotomy from the Milo we first knew. I loved him so much; he made me laugh, and want to brush that long hair behind his ears and wrap him in a warm blanket and give him a big hug;(2) Niall: Similarly, LM had a hard task in making us believe that love-them-and-leave-them Niall was actually a dyed-in-the-wool romantic at heart. And she accomplished it with flying colors. I love how Niall protects and cares for Milo, while seeing that this also requires him to back off sometimes to give Milo room to shine. He was a force of nature who allowed himself to be vulnerable; once he figured out he wanted Milo, he didn't let denial send him off course;(3) The other characters: Oz, Silas, Cora, oh my! So glad to spend so much time again with our favorite little leprechaun and earl. And, Gideon . . . bestill my heart. Can't wait for him to get his own book. (Please, please, don't make me have to wait to long.)(4) The setting: Can I move into some cottage on the estate, and cavort with Chewwy and the sheep?(5) The humor: Oh God . . . I can't take any more laughing. SO. MUCH. SNARK.(5) The epilogue: I read romance novels because I am a romantic who likes my heart on my sleeve. I love it when the author ties it all up for us with a neat shiny bow. Thank you, Lily Morton!

Milo and Niall are yet another imperfectly perfect couple by Lily Morton. They’ve known each other since childhood and Niall has always been a quiet, supportive presence in Milo’s life. Due to a head injury when he was a child, Milo developed a bad stammer, which through hard work and therapy, he pretty much overcomes until he finds himself in an abusive relationship for a few years. Niall comes to the rescue and whisks him away to a Cornwall estate to recover, decompress, and reset his life. And so the story begins.Niall and Milo are both in book one, Oz, which if you haven’t read yet, you must. You have brief glimpses of them in that book and how they work together. Oz is a bit of a catalyst for Milo’s eventual transformation from a quiet, reserved, almost timid man, back to his old self. Oz may have been the jump-start Milo needed, but Milo is truly coming back to his true self. And Niall starts to take notice. It seems that once Niall’s eyes are opened to Milo as a man, not just as a dear kid brother of one of his best friends, you “can’t put the jack back in the box.”This is further complicated by the fact that Niall has been having a sexual relationship with Gideon, Milo’s older brother and close friend to Niall, since their teenage years. They are the consummate f-buddies who have had many sexual exploits over the years with multiple partners in many variations. This arrangement, of course, stops after Milo and Niall become a pseudo-couple, but you can see what Milo is up against as far as working through some insecurities. Niall is his staunch supporter through it all, and gives Milo the time and space to work it out for himself, as well as with his brother.Milo and Niall are opposites who complement each other. Niall is bold, confident, boisterous. Milo is reserved, introspective, with an underlying layer of steel. They’re fantastic together. I love Niall’s care of Milo. I love how Milo comes out of his shell and learns to shine. Oz and Silas, and adorable Cora, make numerous appearances in this book, a definite bonus. Love epilogues and LM is great for these. This is a good one. While it’d be fine on its own, I don’t feel it’s strictly a stand-alone. I would recommend reading book one first since it overlaps this one, and that one’s damn good, too. (Not a fan of the covers of either of the books in this series. That’s all I got for a criticism) 🙂

4 1/2 stars**Possible Spoilers**I am enjoying the Finding Home series. After meeting Milo and Niall in Oz, I was looking forward to their story in this book. It was worth the wait. The author gives glimpses of Milo’s pain as he slowly comes back into his own after the awful circumstances from years ago. Niall plays a big part in his recovery as he encourages Milo to be who and what he wants to be with no pressure from those around him. I enjoyed watching him blossom, and I enjoyed watching Niall who was watching him blossom. The confusion of both main characters was touching and painful. The snark and wit kept things at a brisk pace, and the passion that followed was powerful and beautiful.Silas and Oz are lovely, and entertaining, supporting characters in Milo’s journey to become whole once more. These four characters keep everything interesting. The author has a gift for bringing humor into harsh storylines, blunting the sharp edges, and making you laugh even as you cry.Their HEA is satisfying, and I look forward to more from this author.P.S. Last but not least, the cover is beautiful.

I loved this book just as I did Oz in the First Finding Home book and the other books in the Mixed Messages series. Lily Morton writes the most excellent characters and her pairings are so interesting and loving. Milo is saved by Niall but ends up saving Niall from a solitary existence of hook-ups. They met because Milo was the brother of Niall’s best friend/ hook-up ( can’t wait for his book!). Niall is the only one who has never made Milo feel inadequate about his stutter -which is largely gone. The book also handles domestic abuse (from someone who has experienced it) in a thoughtful and -amazingly-not triggering and healing way. The book is a triumph of healing and finding love. It’s also scorchingly sexy and hot! I highly recommend this book, and all written by this author!

The Law of God is a work that makes an excellent study tool for home and school. This is a great book designed for new followers of the Eastern Orthodox faith. It is written by a priest of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR), which is part of the Russian Orthodox Church who is one head of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Saying that, this book can be used by any Orthodox faithful, whether OCA, Greek, Antiochian, or others. Catholics can also find similar aspects of their faith and enjoyment in this work although it is not about their faith. The book is split into five sections: Basic Concepts, Prayers, Sacred History of the Old and New Testament, Christian Faith and Life, and the Divine Services of the Orthodox Church. Each section is a brief overview of a section of the Orthodox faith, whether it be standard prayers that one can use in the prayer rule or the history found in the Holy Bible.Section One deals with basic concepts, such as God, Prayer, the Sign of the Cross, and the architecture of the Orthodox Church. Section Two includes a large group of prayers and the meanings behind them; the Lord's Prayer, Nicene Creed, prayers before and after meals, and others are given. Section Three is the paraphrased history of Christianity as told in the Holy Bible, starting with Genesis and ending with the Acts. It also discusses the conversion of Russia to Christianity. Section four is a small section of theological discussions, included are the seven Ecumenical Councils and their reasons for happening and a discussion of the Beatitudes and the Ten Commandments. The final section discusses actual Orthodox practices and services. Practices included are the clergy and meanings of their vestments, the Holy Feasts, and breakdowns of the Divine Liturgy and major services. The book, which is hardback, is made very sturdy. The binding holds up quite well and the pages are of good quality. The typeset is great for reading. There are a few misspellings but nothing that would detract from the work itself or as a study aid.Having read both "The Orthodox Church" by Metropolitan Kallistos Ware and this one, I definitely would recommend the Book of Law as a better book for those new to the Orthodox faith or wanting to learn about the Orthodox faith. Metropolitan Ware is extremely gifted but his book is more of a history of the Church, while this is more helpful with understanding Orthodoxy as a faith. I definitely learned more about the practices of Orthodoxy from this book.

One of the best books that explains why the Orthodox live their faith they way they do. Great education tool for young and old alike! Short chapters with review questions at the end of each one to make sure you understand the content. My 10 year old loves it so much, she has taken it to school to read during free time - a must read for any Orthodox Christian or anyone who wants to understand what it's all about!

This book is a lot like the Cliff Notes version of the Bible from an Orthodox perspective. It helped me immensely during my catechism and by the time I was baptized into the Greek Orthodox Church I had a firm grasp and understanding of the beliefs of the Church. It summarizes all of the stories from the Old and New Testament and explains the lessons with a modern voice.

I thought this would be a good book to have in our home for family use. This is the kind of book parents can read with their children, for the establishment of a firm foundation and for a refresher. The book is a blessing for this purpose. The book includes photos, Icons, and pictures and is sturdy and well bound and will last for many years. The Law of God is yet another of the fine publications produced by Holy Trinity Monastery.

Excellent Book,I definitely recommend this book! clearly informative on the Orthodox Christian Faith. This is a book to use at home to teach your children their faith. Good for every house hold; great for reference and may be used to teach converts the basic Orthodox Christian Dogma and church traditions regarding the faith. Easy to read.

This book is wonderful !!! As a newcomer to Orthodox Christianity it is perfect for me to learn the basics of the faith, but also an indispensable text book for my teen age son. The Law of God is straight forward and very easy to understand , beautiful and well made. I highly recommend this book be on every students desk.

An important book to help understand the basics and more of the Orthodox Christian faith.

This is a great supplemental read for the Bible. It goes over the Bible stories in both the Old and New testament and helps you to understand the meaning. It also goes over the basic practices of Orthodox Christianity.
