Pete Souza was the Chief Official White House Photographer for President Obama and the Director of the White House Photo Office. Previously Souza was an Assistant Professor of Photojournalism at Ohio University, the national photographer for the Chicago Tribune, a freelancer for National Geographic, and an Official White House Photographer for President Reagan. His books include the New York Times bestsellers Obama: An Intimate Portrait and The Rise of Barack Obama. Souza is currently a freelance photographer based in Washington, D.C., and a Professor Emeritus at Ohio University's School of Visual Communication.

A timeless piece. It reminds me of when I was proud of our president. The comparison between the two POTUS is astounding. The photographer/author did fantastic work and is a genius for putting it all together in this book. Extremely creative!

This is very different from the other two Souza books I have--one, serious photo retrospective of his presidency with many memorable photos and the other an inspirational book for children, illustrating "lessons" of life through Obama and his photos.Those are very different from this one which is slyly witty in contrasting Trump's presidency and character (mainly through quotes, newspaper headlines and, of course, tweets) with Obama's. The left side has a Trump-related quote and the right has a photo Souza took of Obama in some kind of parallel moment, with Souza's own captioning often casting "shade" at the current occupant of the White House (or sometimes just letting the photo speak for itself). As if we might miss the point about choosing good v. bad leadership, the final page -- perfectly timed -- reminds about the importance of voting.Note: this is a nice 7 x 9" hardback with glossy photo paper. Only one photo of Trump (not in person but on television--starting with the shade). I think the book is better off this way.

I love this book! I have followed Mr. Souza’s IG account since last year, but there’s just something more satisfying about flipping through the contrasts he highlights in the physical form of a book. There photos are of course perfect, and the typesetting is a beautiful addition to the touching and often comical content. The Obama WH was far from perfect, but this book serves as an ode to a simpler, more optimistic (and certainly less mean!) way of governing that we really didn’t appreciate nearly enough while we had it. I had never seen most of these photos much less known the story behind them since I was never interested in politics beyond voting in presidential elections every four years. It’s bittersweet to recognize how boring things used to be, with scandals like the breaching of the Chipotle sneeze guard (the horror!). So yeah, plenty to miss about those days. No time to be disinterested these days!

Love this book! I have the Obama book and have been following Pete on Instagram, as a way to help hang onto my sanity in these scary times. When I first saw page 102 I thought it was an error, but realized, given the content (blathering idiocy) that it was another example of Pete throwing shade. That and the blank Valentine’s Day page. Bam! If you’re considering buying this book, do it!

So happy I ordered it ahead of time. So moving and relevant. The "shade " is perfect, just like it has been over the last two years. Brilliant juxtaposition of the crazy alternate universe of today with the presidential, genuine and historic Obama tenure. A little relief from the current self-serving bully in the White House.

Loved everything about this book. I already purchased a second one which I am sending to my best friend. I’m buying a third one for my niece for her birthday. Something we all can laugh about together because this current President is a big disgusting joke. Got to find humor where we can.

I just got it tonight and I haven’t been able to put it down! Pete Souza is such a talented photographer but also the most clever producer of shade towards the current administration. :)Bravo!!

Seems like so long ago that Obama was President. He was a man who actually cared about people and especially about children. This book is great and I love the high quality photos and snippets of his CLASSY tweets!My only complaint is that the words on one of the pages is cut off so I couldn’t read it.

I love that this book is vague about what the actual problem is, never specifying what terrible thing the main character saw. I feel that this is helpful so that if something is bothering a child, that it might help them to think about what is bothering them instead of the character in the book. It expanded on all of the negative ways the terrible thing was affecting the main character and offered him hope of feeling better through talking to a trusted adult who could help him figure out his feelings about what he saw.I love the line: "Sometimes parents help children figure out their feelings. Sometimes teachers or other grown-ups help. That is how Sherman met Ms. Maple." I love that line for a couple of reasons 1.) Not every child is raised by mom or dad - and it is nice to see that other adults are mentioned as other credible options and also 2) Although many parents are helpful, there are some who are not...or unfortunately may be the major contributor to the child's issues, so for these children it is important to offer other options.Because you can't flip through the book online to see if you like it before buying it, I thought that it might be helpful to write it out below since it's relatively short:Page 1) "Sherman Smith saw the most terrible thing. He was very upset. It really scared Sherman to see such a terrible thing."P 2) "Sherman did not like feeling so afraid. He did not want to remember what happened. So Sherman decided not to think about the terrible thing he saw. Sherman thought that would make him feel better."3) "At first the plan seemed to work. Sherman woke up every morning. He brushed his teeth and he went to school."4) "Sherman played with his friends. He teased his sister and he walked his dog."5) "Everything seemed all right for a while. But something inside of Sherman was starting to bother him."6) "Sherman had to play more, run faster, and sing louder in order to forget the terrible thing he saw."7) "Other things started happening to Sherman, too. First off, if you're needing to look into books like this, I am truly sorry.This book was perfect for our needs. I appreciated how the terrible thing was never described in any way so my child could imagine it as whatever he needed it to be. The descriptions of nightmares, crazy behavior, acting out and getting into trouble and feeling yucky all the time were appropriate for my child's experience.I especially appreciated the representation of therapy. It helped my preschool-age child know what to expect--the talking and playing, and ultimately the feeling better. He marched right into his first appointment and told the therapist all about what they were supposed to do and how she would help him, and got right into talking about his 'terrible thing'.

I bought a bunch of books as I just started working with traumatized children, I used this book yesterday with a seven-year-old, I honestly did not have any expectations, the child was not cooperative with her emotions which is expected, so I tried this book " on the fourth session" and we read it together, the child was acting out each page and having fun until we reached the end of the book, where "the terrible thing she saw happen" . She stayed quiet and was listening intensely. What shocked me is when I finished reading, and I gave her a paper to draw, she spelled her guts out and told me all about what she was repressing. This book is very intense despite the simple language. I am not saying that this would be the outcome expected with every patient, each child is different, but at least I have something very positive to share about one case. I will use it again and write an update. Highly recommended book if you are working with children with trauma.

I was a child therapist. I worked with children who had been abused, traumatized, tortured or suffered from privation. This book was a most effective tool I used many times.Children place great value on the printed word at this age. They believe what they read. The text is written in an easy, comforting style. Ms. Holmes helps the child to feel ok about expressing what has happened.Going at a comfortable pace for each child is necessary. This is not a book to pickup and read when there is extra time at the end of a visit or day. Not before going to bed. The child does better if they are well rested.Parent(s), therapists or caregivers must be prepared to help the child feel secure and safe while working through this. Not just during the reading but through out the time it takes to unpack what happened to the child.Assisting the child in understanding, helping them to not assume blame, and creating a safe place is a most important part of reading this book. It’s the piece that is not included with the book.You make that happen. You may also need to work through this with a therapist.Best wishes.

Such a great book for kids who have witnessed trauma!! Our house burned down 5 months ago and my mother died in the fire- my 5 year old and 7 year old have seen more and worry more than any child should. This book has been very helpful in showing my children that recovery will happen and good times are still to come. It is not specific to any trauma- so it works well for any trauma, including a house fire and bereavement.

I am in the process of becoming a Play Therapist and purchased this book for my collection. The book goes into details about the physical symptoms of experiencing something terrible/trauma (insomnia, stomach pain, uncontrollable thoughts, etc) and then it talks about the various emotional components (anger, sadness, loneliness, etc.), finally it ends with how play therapy works and the results of therapy. Great illustrations and simple language. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to use it with children or adults with cognitive delay. Great resource!

I'm pretty sure this book is what you think it is. It's researched well enough, well written, and mostly interesting. There were a few points of interest that I don't remember being covered in the Isaacson bio, which was necessary for me to enjoy this one, as there is a lot of overlap in the way Jobs's story is told in the two biographies. However, this one is mostly a surface rendering, which may suit you, depending on your reading habits. If you want to get a sense of a broader, more compelling narrative, I recommend Isaacson's biography of Jobs. I recommend this one to anyone with an interest in Jobs/Apple and not enough time or courage to pick up Isaacson's tome.

The book is well organized and well written. It provides the reader with an overview of Jobs' life and Apple origin and spectacular growth to become the giant that is today. On the other hand, it's unbelievable that a person with so many character flaws could achieve all the extraordinary goals that Jobs achieve on his life. Perhaps,it was his tenacity, visionary ideals and persistence to pursue perfection, and the way he view life , all traits that help him become a legend.

This book was assigned to me to read for my junior year in high school. I was surprised at how easily the book captured my attention considering I only read books when it is for a grade. I enjoyed the organization as well as the visuals the author provided (I even found myself googling early Apple products and commercials). Overall this is a smooth read and I finished earlier than I thought I would.

Great paperback book my husband wanted.. I read product description and compared to other books on Steve Jobs and this was exactly what I thought it was going to be when I received it. Very satisfied with this purchase.

I saw this book while visiting the US Space and Rocket Center, and was really captivated by it... except for price. So when I got home I checked Amazon and found it much cheaper so I ordered.This book will really appeal to space geeks like me. There are millions of books of spaceflight pictures, but this is the only one that revolves around the T-38 training aircraft that the astronauts use to train.The images are well reproduced and 98% are ones that have not been published before. Some of the images are from the ground and others are from the cockpit while in flight.Overall in the end this book is great and I look at it frequently since it sits on my coffee table. The book will appeal to space geeks, but if you like good photography of airplanes in general, you will enjoy this book as well!

WOW, phenomenal book! I met Story this past week when we was a guest speaker at our aerospace program. I was so fortunate as to receive an award presented by him and attend a small VIP dinner in his honor. His stories and his spirit absolutely enthralled me and my husband and I ordered this book as soon as we realized it existed. Definitely a must purchase for an aviation enthusiast, especially those who love the Talon. Best book purchase in a long time!

Wonderful combination of flight, art, and history. Bought this for my brother, who flew this wonderful machine for a few years while in the USAF. Did not come in shrink wrap, so I was able to look through it. Wow!

Oracle Database 12c PL/SQL Programming has met all of my expectations and more. There are plenty of great examples throughout the book that spark imagination and creativity. When you're wondering how something you've just read about works, you don't need to look vary hard to find an example to go with it. At the end of the chapters there are great questions to quiz yourself on as well. I have enjoyed, and continue to enjoy this book.

This book is really informative, but I just don't like the way it's laid out and it's riddled with errors and crappy copy and paste jobs that weren't correctly fixed for their new context. Unless you already know PL/SQL really well, I'd recommend some other PL/SQL book.

Michael McLaughlin... Need I say more?I'm a current student of Michael McLaughlin and love his way of teaching and his willingness to update his books to comply with industry standards and innovation. Recommended to all who have passion in learning PL/SQL programming and would like to learn it from the basic level to master.

Wonderful book, I was very impressed by how readable this book was. Many technical books tend to be dry and difficult to read, I felt that the author did a great job at making the book more like a technical conversation. I loved the metaphors used to describe different mechanisms in the oracle database environment, and the charts and images work wonderfully to help visualize how things fit together. Overall a great readable book.
