I enjoyed the book although I felt at some times like the author added unnecessary detail in answering some questions. That created some tedious reading in some parts. If you can get through that it is enjoyable to read.

I didn't realize it would be just questions and answers. There's really not a lot of interesting narrative or stories, and you have to sift through ten to twelve questions about dates and producers to find one thing you're interested in.

51 pages of "Yeah, I knew that." It's a rehash of the same basic theories we were taught in trial technique class. Very little depth. I think the thing I am most impressed by is that he got me to spend $15 on this glorified pamphlet.

Incredible book. I've been looking for a fresh approach to closing argument. I love this one and love the fact the author is a hardcore litigator with heavy experience. I don't want theory. I want what works and wins cases, from someone who does it. I also like that it's short, gets right to the point and tells me exactly how to implement the technique. The tips for giving closings without any notes at all is clever. Can't believe I didn't think of this before.

The initial 40 % of this booklet sounded like a sales pitch on how good the system is. The other 30 pages were shallow general comments on each of the 4 subjects of PERM. I gave it a 2 stars because I did pick a couple of really useful ideas that I hope are worth the ten bucks I paid for this.

Fantastic system for litigators. It's hard to come up with fresh powerful closings. They are just hard to do because I don't have much notice between the end of the case and the start of closings. I have always felt closing arguments are the most critical part of the trial because it's the last time I get to talk to the jury and the only time I can bring all the evidence together. This is a marvelous system because it takes the weaknesses of the closing argument situation - no time to prepare, a bit of helter-skelter disorganization, a tendency to just repeat all the evidence you can think of rather than to use advanced persuasion and messaging techniques to WIN - and proposes an integrated, four-part approach to powerfully inspire the jury to see justice on your terms. It's a great program.

I have tried many criminal and civil cases. I have intuitively using this method for years. I recommend taking notes while reading in a separate notebook. This is a common sense approach to closing arguments.

The author gets into the simplicity of the subject matter. Having read this I am confident of uncomplicating my approach in future trials

I found the book a great quick read and helpful. It was well written and I found the recommended resources valuable and I have practice criminal defense for 31 years. Every young trial lawyer would benefit from this book.

I have read many books about Chernobyl, from dry scientific texts to often silly fictional accounts of its aftermath, yet this young author has done the best job of all of them, offering a simple-yet-accurate description of how Chernobyl's RBMK reactors worked and, ultimately, how one of them critically failed. But there is much more here than a factual account of what happened 30 years ago at the V. I. Lenin power plant. Mr. Leatherbarrow shares his deepest feelings about what he encounters on his all-too-short journey to Pripyat and the plant itself. His descriptions are excellent and without pretense, and, above all, his narrative never gets bogged down. His unpretentious and even-handed treatment of the main players in this oft told story is very refreshing. And I was deeply moved by his emotional responses to what he saw and experienced; I think that I too would have wept as I left this compelling place behind. In the final analysis, Andrew put together a superbly told story that turned out to be of sufficient length to ensure that the reader "got it" without going on and on with repetitious and unnecessary details. Simply put, it was an excellent read, and I found it hard to believe that this was his first book. I certainly hope it won't be his last.

I'd like to give this 3.5 stars, not quite 4 and not quite 3. First the good: The material is incredibly well researched. The documentation of his sources is terrific, though hard to follow in the Kindle edition (not the author's fault). I was fascinated by the recounting of events leading up to the disaster, the heart-breaking stories of those who sacrificed their health if not their lives, and his impressions of Chernobyl today. Now the bad: Leatherbarrow admits he is not a writer and this proves to be true. I found myself wanting to take a red pencil to many of his sentences. He credits the staff of Reddit for helping edit the book. In my opinion, the manuscript could have used even more rigorous editing. There were whole paragraphs repeated almost word for word in different chapters of the book. His account of exploring an abandoned British installation, though interesting, was unrelated to the overall story. The nighttime stroll through Kiev (part of his trip to Chernobyl) really wasn't relevant to the subject matter either. I would still recommend this book for those interested in the Chernobyl crisis, though be prepared to get jarred occasionally by the writing and organization of the material.

I've been interested in Chernobyl for many years and finally decided to purchase a book to read about it. This is a truthfully written, well researched book written by someone not from the area where the disaster occurred but someone who had been moved enough by the topic to write something honest after visiting and researching and reading about the event for many years. What makes this more believable than many accounts of the disaster is that the author stated most early accounts shortly after the disaster and for many years thereafter were untrue and inaccurate. Most of disturbing was the Soviet attitude regarding what should have been the safety of it's citizens. Citizen safety was not a priority to the Soviet government even prior to Chernobyl. There were other little known emergency events in other nuclear plant locations in the then USSR. What was stated to the public shortly after the disaster and even years later in documents after the trial of those in charge at Chernobyl during the event were classified to the residents of the Ukraine and surrounding area. The citizens were fed whatever the government chose to tell them, and it was not the truth about what really happened. This is a great book for someone interested in reading about Chernobyl. It is technical in a few places but still easily understood. Very well written and I suspect, more trustworthy than other earlier publications on the same subject.

A self-published amateur effort that does a better, more readable, job on the disaster than many professional accounts I have read. Yes, for technical information, do make use of other sources, but understand that those sources will have little of the human drama a non-technical reader might be looking for. I was doubtful of the usefulness of such a book, given that Mr. Leatherbarrow is not a scientist or engineer and does not speak Russian. I decided to give his book a read based on the recommendation of another self-published person, a retired engineer (caveat: in addition to being professionally published, I, too, am a self-published author). Making use of nearly all the translated Russian accounts, both personal and technical, he has succeeded. He makes the functioning of the reactor and its disaster very clear, and parallels the Chernobyl experience with Fukushima and Three Mile Island. His brief history of the development of the reactor gives a very good account of the decisions that set the wheels in motion that moved into tragedy. The story of the aftermath, which is still being written, is made more real by his own visit to Chernobyl and the surrounding area. If you can only get one book on the disaster, then make it this one.

I have read many nonfictional accounts of this monster disaster as it both terrifies and mystifies me yet today. Yet, this account is simply one of the easiest and quickest reads on the disaster that I have encountered. I guess at 54 years old; I am living vicariously through the author's account. I find him, for a non-expert, to be very attuned and very informed having done his research well. I like that he has instilled a freshness into the subject in an easy to understand manner. I also like that he has flips back-and-forth between his longing for his quest while sharing his trek across the haunting landscapes of Slavutych, Kiev, Chernobyl, and the ghostly wonders of Pripyat. His inclusion of his photographs and technical diagrams makes the book that much more enthralling. This is a wonderful effort from a guy who appears to have footed the bill for publication of his book on his own dime.

It was interesting to see the similarities and differences of the spindles and how yarn is spun with these devices.We have 2 American Eskimo dogs, and their double-coated fir, during their daily brushings, might make some lovely yarn.A book on making yarn from dog hair will be the next book that I buy to use in my knitting and tabletop loom weaving.This is a ‘have-to-have’ book for every person who deals with fiber arts and wants to make their own yarn.

It has shown me all I need to know about using the spindle. And I do respect the spindle now. I've been hung up over getting a spinning wheel, which are really expensive, thinking that's the only way to properly spin yarn. Now I know I can do so with my spindle.

I'm just learning hand spindling, and this book is a wonderful accompaniment. It is beautiful to look at, has good information on how to spin with various techniques and tools, and is full of fascinating history and lore from various spinning traditions around the world. Four stars because it is hard to learn a physical skill like spinning from a book. Not really the book's fault, but if you are trying to learn hand spindling from scratch I recommend that you buy it, read it for background, then watch some of the author's excellent video tutorials on YouTube. The combination can't be beat!

Sometimes it was hard to tell what she is doing in the pictures, but I understood more when I tried it myself.PROS - In addition to the most commonly seen spindles, unusual spindles like Navajo and Russian spindles are covered. Lots of pictures for both eye candy and of practical value. There's a chart helping you match spindle, spin speed, and fiber type for easier spinning. Plying is also covered.Franquemont covers many types of spindles (although I wish she'd covered turkish spindles a little more*). Supported spindles and suspended spindles. High-whorl, mid-whorl, low-whorl, no-whorl. She describes in detail how to get them spinning and how to increase the efficiency of your spinning. Franquemont talks about the science behind the spindle and how bits of fiber are transformed into yarn.If you've seen any of her videos on Youtube, you'll see how spinning is so natural to her. This book will help you be more comfortable with your own spinning (but you have to practice!).* Abby has a Youtube video just on turkish spindles

I've never spun before, and this was the first book that I purchased in order to start that adventure. Abby's name was recommended to me first though by a couple friends of mine whom have been spinning for awhile themselves, and their recommendation was excellent. I haven't quite finished the book yet, but it is so wonderful and full of very valuable information on not only how to spin, but some of the science and history behind it as well. It's an excellent read and one I recommend for everyone starting to spin!Also recommend checking out some of her videos on youtube, as they are super helpful in actually seeing some of the techniques and such that she talks about in her book, in a real demonstration.

I love spinning on my wheel, but for travel I use a drop-spindle. How nice to have the understanding of how and why this works so I can spin satisfying yarn and transfer the understanding to my work on the wheel. Excellent teaching/learning guide. And it reminds you you're working at a craft that was in use a couple millennia BCE.

Fantastic book for anyone considering the craft, or like myself, already using a spindle as their only means of spinning. Comprehensive and well researched, the author draws from her experience of spinning beginning at the age of six. Beautiful photos of spindles and fiber, add the sexy factor to something not immediately thought of as sexy;), and add to the inspiration I often look for to get my artistic juices flowing. I can't see anyone even slightly interested in the craft not enjoying this book. Ty for this book, and a pleasant transaction.
