Love the series. Good spy novels.

The Gray Man is an assassin with principles. He kills the bad guys. He kills in self defense. He makes the impossible possible. He is one real cool customer. And at the same time he himself is being hunted down to be killed by other government agencies (USA is the lead hunter). This book is the SECOND of five of Gray Man novels. I've read all five. Greaney really does in depth research for all of his books. Greaney goes all over the world looking, talking, interviewing to really add a "now" reality to plot Gray Man's weird look at the life he leads. And and all the twists and turns that happens...you'll find yourself with five or six pages to finish and Greaney hits you with twists. When you read about The Gray Man, his story ain't over until it's over.............................................Be sure you start with book #1 (The Gray Man) then in sequence to book #5 (Back Blast).

The Gray Man, Court Gentry, is a paid assassin working for American clandestine ops and other groups as an independent contractor. I was not sure how enamored I could be for a protagonist who's profession is murder for hire but read anyway for the adventure this genre presents, the fascinating supporting cast of characters and the ins and outs of intrigue and survival Court masters. . It is doubtful that such a man would have inner turmoil and moral conflicts when he is diverted to rescue a woman working for an international justice agency. Wouldn't he just dismiss her as collateral damage of little significance ? When he apprehends his target, the criminal President of Sudan, would he become morally challenged over the completion of his mission ? A real killer would not have such inner conflict but Gentry does and I suppose that adds to the unique nature of this complicated protagonist. The descriptions of Sudan and Darfur were eye opening - such rat holes of countries with people condemned to and resigned to poverty and war. Other reviewers have suggested to read the series in order and so do I because Court's past has links to each next novel which would be insightful for the reader to know.

Mark Greaney's first novel, THE GRAY MAN, was a strong, entertaining entry into the thriller genre. The eponymous protagonist (real name Court Gentry) is a burned former CIA paramilitary working as a contract killer to make a living. He's then again burned by his employer, British former spymaster Sir Donald Fitzroy, and is forced to fight for his life in a battle against the hardest pipe hitters in the game.ON TARGET picks up a few months after the explosive conclusion with a Gentry who is trying to get back in the game and is struggling with a painkiller addiction. His new employer, a Russian playboy with ties to both the FSB and the Russian neo-Nazi scene, who task him with a difficult job: assassinate the president of Sudan.Before Gentry can move to complete the contract, he is intercepted by his former SAD/SOG team leader, Zack Hightower, and given a deal he can't refuse: kidnap the Sudanese president rather than assassinate him, and the Agency will not only lift the termination order on Gentry, they will employ him at arms length for deniable operations.ON TARGET's pacing picks up fast and does not stop for much. From the streets of Ireland, to the slums of Moscow, and through the desert expanse and haboobs of Darfur and Khartoum, Gentry fights his way through Sudanese soldiers and secret police, retired contract killers, skinheads, and others en route to his objective.In GRAY MAN, Greaney showed how Gentry is simultaneously a methodical, pragmatic killer and a man with a soul, willing to throw operational common sense to the wind in order to save those he deems innocent and deserving. That trend is continued in ON TARGET, and in fact is the driving force behind the action. There are also moments of parallels drawn between a particularly heinous character and Gentry where the latter is forced to really analyze himself and what he does for a living, at times questioning himself.The action is kinetic and well-researched, written with a voice that clearly knows firearms and has sought out expert instruction on their tactical employment. It definitely throws the reader into overdrive in a race from the front cover to the back.With a cliffhanger ending that sets the stage for the next Gray Man series entry, ON TARGET is everything an action thriller should be: exciting, harrowing, educational, and gripping from start to finish.

On Target picks up at a point in time after book 1 but with the same concept - Court Gentry is again asked (?) to kidnap and/or kill the President of Sudan. Much of the story takes place in the desolate and desperate country of Sudan and involves Gray Man working for and against a Russian mobster and a black ops CIA team. As in Book 1 Gentry seems to survive when no one else can or should. Without revealing too much, On Target ends with Gray Man disappearing for his own good. Another reviewer gave the book 4 stars, perhaps for the same reason I do. I would like a book to conclude entirely, but in this case there are a couple of persons not mentioned in the end such that the reader is a bit in the dark. Perhaps one or more will resurface in future books. Nonetheless, aside from the outrageous price of nearly $12 for Book 3, I will probably “bite my tongue” and go for #3.

I have read all the books in the Gray Man series. They are edge if your seat exciting. One of those "how did he do that" action thrillers. The author's imagination is incredible. It's amazing how Greaney keeps coming up with new ways to keep the Gray Man alive. Since I have read all five books one after the other, it's hard to keep them separate. "On Target" gets five starts from me as do all the books in the Gray Man series. I can't wait for the next book.

Our three boys (7, 5, 2) ask to do our devotional all throughout the day. Barbara Reaoch's "A Jesus Christmas" is far and away the best devotional we've done as a family, Christmas or otherwise. Each devotional begins with a scripture reading followed by 2 questions to make sure everyone got the main points from the text. Next, Reoach shows how Satan's lies are refuted and dismantled in Christ's Incarnation. She masterfully covers deep theological truths in simple and short ways that kids can understand. Lastly, there is a family journaling page with creative prompts to repond to the devotion with art. This will be a book to look back on for years to come and enjoy the memories of studying God's Word together. Our family has had some major lightbulb moments throughout this devotion like the story of a mother bird protecting her chicks from a fire. Our son said, "I get it!! Jesus took the punishment we deserved. He died so we don't have to!" "A Jesus Christmas" is the perfect way to prepare for Christmas. We couldn't recommend it more highly!

We love how this devotion is easy to go through as a family but is also so rich with the gospel message. We see over and over again how God sent Jesus to mankind to destroy every lie the serpent had been telling us since the beginning. Even our youngest children are getting to learn and understand big concepts through words that they understand. Our more mature children are able to contemplate and wrestle with some powerful truths.

We really love this devotional. We have a large family with kids from 5-19. We can apply the daily lessons do all can understand and discuss. Simple, Biblical. It can take just 5-10 minutes, or if discussion carries on (as it often does for us) you can spend 20-30 minutes talking about the lesson. As a Dad and spiritual leader in our home I am so thankful that my wife picked this up for us. 10/5 stars.

I loved reading this Advent book with my child. We both looked forward to it each night. Just wish I had a hard copy instead of a Kindle version, but the PDF print out is a nice touch.

Our family loves this book! It has given us a way to focus on the Christmas story from start to finish, and I love how the author connects the Old Testament to Christmas in a way the children can easily understand. We have incorporated the daily devotional into our Advent calendar routine, so instead of just looking forward to the sweet treat, we have a special time focusing on Jesus first.

While I was drawn to this title in desperation after having a coworker try to ruin my career and sanity with gossip, this book is actually good for anybody and everybody. The best part of this book was when the author directed certain readers to another book (Codependent No More) prior to going further in his book. That was a great suggestion for me, and I feel like I wouldn't have gotten the full effect of this book without reading that one first. The author explains the complicated nature of invalidation and gives the reader tools to a) keep an invalidator from invalidating you; b) recognize the invalidator in yourself and understand not only why you get like that but what you can do to stop yourself; and c) learn to have some measure of healthy compassion for the invalidators you come across.I spent 90% of a three day weekend on these two books. I can say that, after trying unsuccessfully to handle stress, anxiety and depression through multiple attempts with medication, food, alcohol, etc - that I have felt more calm, happier, and more "present" than I have, maybe ever. I also have no anxiety about going to work tomorrow. The thoughts and memories of previous insults, bullying, abuse, and even little slights (as well as things I've said and done myself that were invalidating to others) seem to come up in my mind like they always do, but I've been able to see them for what they were and calmly put them to the side. It's too soon to really tell how this will change my life or anything, but I'll know the next time I'm faced with a difficult situation (probably tomorrow, haha).

Despite its relative brevity, this book is packed with very illuminating information about the insidious and destructive tactics used by all of us when in a less-than-healthy place emotionally. Of course, the author makes allowance for the truly egregious offenders, those who set out to wreck the psyches of other people. Most important, he describes general ways, with a few specific examples, of how to effectly disarm such people and take your sanity back. I appreciated the author's acknowledgement that there isn't a "one size fits all approach" to dealing with nasty people. Nevertheless, he points you in the right direction and arms you with the tools you need to cope. Bravo!

For me, the examples and scenarios were the best tool for understanding. The theory is fine, but as he said we all invalidate from time to time and ~21% of us do it all the time consciously or unconsciously. Unfortunately imo there are too few societal examples of healthy behavior and hundreds of tv programs and series where invalidation is the driving "drama" or entertainment... out there possibly spreading the "disease" of invalidation as normal or acceptable behavior. Thus, my three star rating is based on the lack of examples. Many people who invalidate are seasoned pros and I found assertive communication with them is like stepping into a boxing ring for the first time and your opponent is Mike Tyson, unwilling to pull punches and if he thinks he is going to "lose" he will bite your ear off.

This book has been my go to " SELF HELP Bible." I read this when it was first published and I still refer to it today (almost 25 years later.). It is CONCISE, HELPFUL, EYE OPENING and LIFE CHANGING. It gives one very easy to learn and apply methods for identifying NASTY people, honing in on the effect it has on you and techniques to protect you from further abuse. EVERYONE can benefit.....Of course, if YOU are an invalidator this book will NOT appeal to you. Sorry, Invalidator, you won't be able to manipulate any longer. :)

I have given away more copies of this than any other book in my life. There is a good reason for that. Invalidators, or "nasty people" as Jay Carter calls them are everywhere. Parents, friends, wives, husbands, well they are just everywhere. People who want to shame and blame and humiliate you. People who want to trick you into arguments that you always loose because you are just an inferior, damaged person.Had enough? Ready to learn how to feel better about yourself and stop wasting your time fighting over something with someone who really doesn't care about anything except making you feel bad.Jay Carter also does a good job of showing how invalidators often do what they do because it is how they were raised. He offers some hope that someday, an invalidator may change their evil ways but it is OK for you to set boundaries, blow their cover and take care of your self in the mean time.I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK MORE THAN SIMILAR TYPES OF BOOKS ABOUT DEALING WITH PEOPLE YOU CAN'T STAND. It is sooooo simple and easy to understand. Just a great book to help you quit allowing people to beat you up because your are not perfect, have ADHD, are a bit eccentric, and a million other behaviors that make each of of different. HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

He calls them INVALIDATORS and we all have a few of them hanging around to give us eternal grief from time to time. This book gives you the tools to put such people in their place. This book nails the Invalidators to the wall and teaches us how to turn their nasty ways back on themselves. I've had this book in it's first printing back in the early 1990's and bought the updated version as well. I wore my first copy of the book out. I locked it in my top desk drawer at work. It was my reference book to manage the people who gave me grief. The good news is I survived and they didn't. The book works. Buy it and eliminate the pests.
