#66,295 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I got a killer deal on book 1 of the series which captured me so then of course I read book 2 in less than 24 hours from when it hit my kindle. Here are the things I loved and why I think if you’re anything like me (I think you’ll get an idea of “me” simply by what I love) you’ll love the book too!First of all, the name Ebba-Viva is so cool. I’m considering changing my name or having another kid or maybe at least getting a new pet so I can use this name.Second, Ebba herself is hilarious, a little crazy, and her pirate wisdom is off the charts. She’s also so real, taking on the burden and guilt of things that are so not her fault but in her mind it is. I can definitely relate.Third, the slow burn romance (to be clear I hate this term but it’s very accurate). Like so far we’ve seen a little handholding and flushed cheeks and Ebba may or may not consider herself a woman. (Mini spoiler, sorry). It’s amazing and killing me at the same time!! Can they have a solid make-out sess already and admit they’re perfectly matched. Which leads me to a bonus point, I love a good clean book. This one hits the mark there tooFourth, I literally can’t read or predetermine the direction of some of the plot. Most books are so predictable. I mean, I’m sure in the end Ebba and her man will be together and they’ll dominate the whole magic issue, but there’s a lot in between that has my mind spinning for answersAnd finally fifth, I literally think in pirate speak sometimes at the moment. I actually like it!

Book 2 was no slump! It was constant in its ever-increasing pace and reveal after reveal (that of course led to further questions, but in a very satisfying way). I’ve read everything (I believe) that Ms St Clare has published, and this was right up at the top of all of them. Now, Ebba Viva is young and naive, so there are some of these reveals that can be seen a mile away....but they were done true to the character and didn’t take away from the book at all for me. Her naïveté was well established, and we are allowed to feel any anguish, any growth, any backbone growth that comes as part of these moments. Plus, it’s all happening so fast and couched in action, humor, and a little bit of romance that it’s all very well balanced.Seriously, this book is great. If you’ve liked any of the author’s prior works, you owe it to yourself to read this (and don’t read out of order).I was provided a copy at no cost to the author.

This sequel was even better than the first! I felt the story flowed better and got right into it. It took me a while to get used to the pirate speak again but not as long as it did for the first book. I’m still unsure why exactly I struggle with it.I loved the twists and turns and the mysteries that keep popping up. I also enjoyed seeing Ebba’s growth and becoming more independent. I look forward to her blossoming even more as the series goes on. Jagger continuously intrigues me and I’m very curious to know what is going on in his head. Hopefully we learn more about him in the next book. I’m glad a certain secret was revealed at the end because it finally confirmed my suspicions from book 1. Now I just need more details to sort out the “why’s” in my head. I can’t wait for the next book and see what surprises are in store.

Kelly St Clare is a no brainer author for me. I know what she write will be a guaranteed good time. Romance, adventure, a little bit of magic. Everything anyone could ask for in a Fantasy book. Stolen Princess is no exception.I liked Immoral Plunder and I knew it was going to get better but I truly loved Stolen Princess. Its the perfect little trail of hints, teases and reveals that leave you satisfied and yet day dreaming about what will happen next.Ebba is growing on me so much as a character and where before she was at odds with wanting adventure and danger and actually facing the things in front of her, in this book she takes them head on. An intriguing Male makes a reappearance and others solidify themselves as loyal friends. I cant wait to see where this all goes next!I received an ARC for free but bought and will buy all of Ebba's story!Read this book! Then go read all of her others!

It took a couple chapters to get back in to the rhythm of pirate speech and life style. It also lulled me into making assumptions and different theories. Then St. Clare changes gears. I was just working on getting over one surprise when another came at me. I loved Ebba's growth. I'm so happy with how much she's developed in this book. I also am so curious with Cosmo and Jaggar. I still love her interactions with her dads and their real emotions they express for her. I am so curious where St Clare is building this and cannot wait to find out more!!

I can’t even right now. Holy smokes. This book is AMAZING. Them plot twists still have me reeling, especially the final one that involved me uttering a single statement that would’ve been added to the swear jar. I had my suspicions but finding out the truth... OHMYGOSH.It was so cool seeing New Zealand culture woven into this masterpiece of a story, being a Kiwi myself!I can’t even begin to describe how epic this series is. Can I have book three now, please??? I might die if I don’t have it soon.

This series will have you talking like a pirate in your head and sometimes out loud. It keep you on your toes with all the suspense. So some secrets come to light but it just seems to more after that. Ebba struggles to find where to belongs but the prices she pays along the way are heavy. The book has it all determination, witty banter, pirate logic, light romance, and twist that keep you guesses. Must read, be the pirate you know you want to be.

From the Author

Hi, I'm Sophia Recca. Thank you for checking me out on Amazon. I can't wait to hear what you think about my new full-color graphic novel, MEND: A Story of Divorce. Please be sure to share your thoughts with an Amazon Reader Review! My story is that I'm currently 14 years old and I attend a private high school in Las Vegas, Nevada. I play volleyball, I love to read and I get good grades! When I was just 11 years old, my parents got divorced and my Dad moved to Los Angeles. It took me a while to figure it out, but I finally "flipped the script" on them and got them to focus on my needs as well as theirs. My experience was turned into a full-color graphic novel by Anthony and Michelle Zuiker and the team at Zuiker Press. These are the same people behind the hit TV series, C.S.I.: Crime Scene Investigation. They have committed to telling the stories of remarkable teens dealing with extraordinary issues. If you've read MEND: A Story of Divorce, I hope you will comment on it here. If you haven't, I hope you'll look for it at your library. Zuiker Books has a strong library support program, so if your library does not have my book, let me know and I'll see what I can do.Thank You!!!Sophia

Mend is an incredible story of a young girl dealing with difficult circumstances! What an amazing way to open up a discussion with young readers and provide them an opportunity to relate to tough issues that many people their age are going through. As an educator, I highly recommend this book for your students, as well as your own personal children. This book is full of useful information for the first-time cruiser, or experienced cruiser heading down the thorny path for the first time (or second or third for that matter.) I'm a yacht delivery captain and the info in this book has been quite helpful in a number of ways. Bruce covers all aspects of the trip, most importantly, weather forecasting and route planning and safe harbors specific to this neck of the woods. The info for clearing customs etc., along the way is of course useful as well, as are the notes on some of the services and provisioning spots. There are other guides that are a wealth of information on these last two topics, but as for a "How-To", hands on guide by someone who has been there, done that, this book is pretty invaluable. If you can get past some of the Holier-than-thou sounding attitude that occasionally surfaces, you'll find everything you need to make a safe voyage. My two cents, even if it is repetetive of Bruce's advice...take your time. Wait for the weather. Some of the crossings can get pretty nasty - especially the Mona. What he says about hourglass shoals is accurate. Avoid as much of it as you can. And the Night Lee effect can be used in many places with a large landmass and warm weather...including the DR, as Bruce mentions. But it's not always there, so don't bank on it. Sometimes the prevailing winds are too strong to get settled by it. Wait for your good windows, it'll be worth it. It's definitely a windward slog, but one that can be done safely, and somewhat comfortably, if you follow the good advice in this book.

Bruce Van Sant is more than a little over-bearing in his style. Smug and self-congratulatory are his middle names. That said, the man has written an excellent, excellent book chock-full of insights, caveats, how-to's,and how-NOT to's, right down to a great but simple recipe for beer bread! There are at least a dozen good books you should have on board when you depart Fort Lauderdale for the Islands and boy, this is ONE of them for sure. Buy it! You will read it again and again.

this book was a great help bring a sixty ft pig boat to manzinillo.( aft dog house 471 detroit) found it in take one leave one libaray in nassugot a copy on amazon for like five bucks a few years ago when i first bought my current boat. but now it sells for 350++$ WTF.Has anyone got his new book and does it have same info?

This book was recommended to us by fellow cruisers that followed the author's path south. I found it very enlightening as we are about to venture south with our boat. A lot of practical and well experienced advice.

The definitive guide for this trip. Don't leave home without it.Clear & well written. Tells you what you need to know.Bob

This is a must have guide for a first time crusier as we are if your going to ventured south saftley.

Bruce Van Sant may be opinionated about the best way to take a cruising boat down the "Thorny Path," but those opinions are based on years of experience. Not everyone agrees with everything he's written, but even those who disagree (typically on one detail or another) will tell you that in general Van Sant's methods are based on sound principles. He gives you strategies if not a way of life that has worked for him for decades. Best of all, when you get to Luperon in the Dominican Republic you can look him up and tell him how the trip has gone so far.

This is a great guide book with lots of good information. Everyone sailing from the US or the Bahamas to the Caribbean should have this book. The author has a plan for getting to the Caribbean without beating up yourself or your boat -- the thornless path. Even if you don't follow that advice I think the book is worth having. We took the offshore route instead of island hopping like he suggests, but I still found the book valuable and think I learned a lot from it.

Cute coloring book. My daughter wss so happy. The pages have a tear line so they do come out easy. The paper is the cheap brownish paper but its a Blaze coloring book, so just happy to find my daughters favorite for her to color.

I bought this as a gift for a little boy and he loved it. He is two and loves Blaze and loves to color so I figured I would play it safe and get this. It was a hit with him. I got him Crayola color wonder for Christmas last year and it was hit too, so I decided to keep this theme going with him. He likes to write, color, and draw.

The book is cute and I love that it comes with the big crayons for little hands. I wasn't so crazy about the pages being the older brown and thin pages instead of white. My daughter didn't seem to mind.

Great book with tons of stickers and detailed pictures to color. My only complaint is that I purchased this as a gift and unfortunately the packaging hold the crayons came off and the crayons spilled out and smudged the cover.

My son loves Blaze and was excited to get this. The crayons are durable and bright and he loves the stickers.

This one's kind of interesting, because it also kind of reads like a story book, while actually being a coloring and activity book. My 3-year-old loves it!

Nice coloring book for kids (boys). The crayons were coming off, so I had to tape it. Not really a problem, but it was a gift, so I wanted it to stay together.

My 2 year old loved this book. He used all the stickers in 2 days. I like the size of the crayons. Theyre big and chunky. Even though stickers are gone he still colors in it.

Amazon.com Review

Amazon Best Books of the Month, January 2012: How many introverts do you know? The real answer will probably surprise you. In our culture, which emphasizes group work from elementary school through the business world, everything seems geared toward extroverts. Luckily, introverts everywhere have a new spokesperson: Susan Cain, a self-proclaimed introvert who’s taken it upon herself to better understand the place of introverts in culture and society. With Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking, Cain explores introversion through psychological research old and new, personal experiences, and even brain chemistry, in an engaging and highly-readable fashion. By delving into introversion, Cain also seeks to find ways for introverts and extroverts to better understand one another--and for introverts to understand their own contradictions, such as the ability to act like extroverts in certain situations. Highly accessible and uplifting for any introvert--and any extrovert who knows an introvert (and over one-third of us are introverts)--Quiet has the potential to revolutionize the “extrovert ideal.” –Malissa Kent Amazon Exclusive: Q & A with Author Susan Cain Q: Why did you write the book? A: For the same reason that Betty Friedan published The Feminine Mystique in 1963. Introverts are to extroverts what women were to men at that time--second-class citizens with gigantic amounts of untapped talent. Our schools, workplaces, and religious institutions are designed for extroverts, and many introverts believe that there is something wrong with them and that they should try to “pass” as extroverts. The bias against introversion leads to a colossal waste of talent, energy, and, ultimately, happiness. Q: What personal significance does the subject have for you? A: When I was in my twenties, I started practicing corporate law on Wall Street. At first I thought I was taking on an enormous challenge, because in my mind, the successful lawyer was comfortable in the spotlight, whereas I was introverted and occasionally shy. But I soon realized that my nature had a lot of advantages: I was good at building loyal alliances, one-on-one, behind the scenes; I could close my door, concentrate, and get the work done well; and like many introverts, I tended to ask a lot of questions and listen intently to the answers, which is an invaluable tool in negotiation. I started to realize that there’s a lot more going on here than the cultural stereotype of the introvert-as-unfortunate would have you believe. I had to know more, so I spent the past five years researching the powers of introversion. Q: Was there ever a time when American society valued introverts more highly? A: In the nation’s earlier years it was easier for introverts to earn respect. America once embodied what the cultural historian Warren Susman called a “Culture of Character,” which valued inner strength, integrity, and the good deeds you performed when no one was looking. You could cut an impressive figure by being quiet, reserved, and dignified. Abraham Lincoln was revered as a man who did not “offend by superiority,” as Emerson put it. Q: You discuss how we can better embrace introverts in the workplace. Can you explain? A: Introverts thrive in environments that are not overstimulating—surroundings in which they can think (deeply) before they speak. This has many implications. Here are two to consider: (1) Introverts perform best in quiet, private workspaces—but unfortunately we’re trending in precisely the opposite direction, toward open-plan offices. (2) If you want to get the best of all your employees’ brains, don’t simply throw them into a meeting and assume you’re hearing everyone’s ideas. You’re not; you’re hearing from the most vocally assertive people. Ask people to put their ideas in writing before the meeting, and make sure you give everyone time to speak. Q: Quiet offers some terrific insights for the parents of introverted children. What environment do introverted kids need in order to thrive, whether it’s at home or at school? A: The best thing parents and teachers can do for introverted kids is to treasure them for who they are, and encourage their passions. This means: (1) Giving them the space they need. If they need to recharge alone in their room after school instead of plunging into extracurricular activities, that’s okay. (2) Letting them master new skills at their own pace. If they’re not learning to swim in group settings, for example, teach them privately. (3) Not calling them “shy”--they’ll believe the label and experience their nervousness as a fixed trait rather than an emotion they can learn to control. Q: What are the advantages to being an introvert? A: There are too many to list in this short space, but here are two seemingly contradictory qualities that benefit introverts: introverts like to be alone--and introverts enjoy being cooperative. Studies suggest that many of the most creative people are introverts, and this is partly because of their capacity for quiet. Introverts are careful, reflective thinkers who can tolerate the solitude that idea-generation requires. On the other hand, implementing good ideas requires cooperation, and introverts are more likely to prefer cooperative environments, while extroverts favor competitive ones. A Reader’s Guide for Quiet:The Power of Introverts in a World that Can’t Stop Talking By Susan Cain Introduction At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking, reading to partying; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over brainstorming in teams. Although they are often labeled "quiet," it is to introverts that we owe many of the great contributions to society-from van Gogh’s sunflowers to the invention of the personal computer. Passionately argued, impressively researched, and filled with indelible stories of real people, Quiet shows how dramatically we undervalue introverts, and how much we lose in doing so. This extraordinary book has the power to permanently change how we see introverts and, equally important, how introverts see themselves. Questions and Topics for Discussion 1. Based on the quiz in the book, do you think you’re an introvert, an extrovert, or an ambivert? Are you an introvert in some situations and an extrovert in others? 2. What about the important people in your lives—your partner, your friends, your kids? 3. Which parts of QUIET resonated most strongly with you? Were there parts you disagreed with—and if so, why? 4. Can you think of a time in your life when being an introvert proved to be an advantage? 5. Who are your favorite introverted role models? 6. Do you agree with the author that introverts can be good leaders? What role do you think charisma plays in leadership? Can introverts be charismatic? 7. If you’re an introvert, what do you find most challenging about working with extroverts? 8. If you’re an extrovert, what do you find most challenging about working with introverts? 9. QUIET explains how Western society evolved from a Culture of Character to a Culture of Personality. Are there enclaves in our society where a Culture of Character still holds sway? What would a twenty-first-century Culture of Character look like? 10. QUIET talks about the New Groupthink, the value system holding that creativity and productivity emerge from group work rather than individual thought. Have you experienced this in your own workplace? 11. Do you think your job suits your temperament? If not, what could you do to change things? 12. If you have children, how does your temperament compare to theirs? How do you handle areas in which you’re not temperamentally compatible? 13. If you’re in a relationship, how does your temperament compare to that of your partner? How do you handle areas in which you’re not compatible? 14. Do you enjoy social media such as Facebook and Twitter, and do you think this has something to do with your temperament? 15. QUIET talks about “restorative niches,” the places introverts go or the things they do to recharge their batteries. What are your favorite restorative niches? 16. Susan Cain calls for a Quiet Revolution. Would you like to see this kind of a movement take place, and if so, what is the number-one change you’d like to see happen?

#6,130 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

I believe this book saved my life. I'm not prone to melodrama, or to such excessively long reviews, but this is true, and so important to me, I have to say it. I've been working for years in an extremely busy law office. It's been growing harder and harder throughout the years for me to handle this job. Two months ago my boss fired my coworker, and I've since had to take on two people's work plus train multiple new people (as the first two didn't stay), all with constant, all day long interruptions, high-intensity demands, and a high level of multitasking. This has happened many times before, and while it was dreadful, I managed, but for some reason this time I just couldn't handle it. My entire life has been on hold since this started, I get home from work too exhausted to do anything except veg out for a couple hours and go to bed, and even weekends aren't much better. I was taking terrible care of myself and my life was falling apart. I did, in fact, feel like I was killing myself with this lifestyle, but I simply did not have the energy to fix any of it, or for that matter have any idea how to fix it.I blamed myself - there must be something `wrong with me' because I can't handle the job. I wanted to leave, but thought, if I can't handle this job, how am I going to handle a new job? It'll probably be more of the same. I thought I was just getting soft because I was getting older (I'm in my late 40s).I've always known I was introverted, but I didn't realize just what all that entailed - I thought it mostly meant `shy' or that I didn't like social settings. This book taught me more about myself than I've ever known. It read like my biography. Almost every page had a new insight into why I think and feel the way I do. Throughout the book I saw my very own self described in new and empowering ways.I learned that the job situation I'm currently in - the non-stop deadline demands, interruptions, never being able to work quietly or alone no matter how difficult a project was, phones ringing incessantly, people in my face all day long, etc. - especially when it's work that I actually don't care anything about personally - those are the exact circumstances that trip every one of a strong introvert's triggers. And I was subjecting myself to it 40 hours a week, for months. It's no wonder I was so miserable and completely exhausted all the time. And as enlightening as it was to learn how many of the traits I've beat myself up for over the years are just a product of my introverted temperament (being highly sensitive, shutting down when subjected to stimulation overload, preferring to think a thing through before I speak - something I never get to do at work, as if it takes me more than 5 seconds to say something, I get interrupted and cut off), the most important thing I got from this book is that it's okay to be myself, it's okay to feel the way I do. There is not something `wrong with me' that I have to `fix.' I am not weak or a failure because I don't feel or behave like my extremely extroverted boss (who thrives in high-energy crisis mode, and is bored unless he's doing 10 things at once - and expects the rest of us to keep up).And far from it being an age-related `going soft,' what's probably in fact going on is that as I get older, it is becoming increasingly vital to me to be truer to myself.I also found the information on the history of the "rise of the Culture of Personality" completely fascinating, it really gave me a new insight as to just exactly how we 'grew' this tendency to value extroversion over introversion. It makes so much more sense now. This book gave me the courage I needed to start taking the steps to fix my work situation. Not only the courage, but the `permission' and the understanding - because I now know there isn't something wrong with me, but instead this is what I need to do to be my best self, and stop killing myself with stress. That I probably can find a place of value in the world by being myself, not trying to force myself to be something I'm not. I know I will meet resistance from my boss (I'd love for him to read this book, but unfortunately I know he won't), and I know I won't instantly fix everything in one day, and that I'll probably always need to be able to stretch myself a bit to do things that are not ideal for me ... but this book taught me that there are ways to make that work, too, if you understand and honor the need for recharging around such tasks, instead of trying to force yourself to do them 8 hours a day with no break. It doesn't have to be all or nothing, in either direction. Basically, I'm not out of the woods yet, but I now see the path out, and I have hope.I think every introvert should read this book, because it will help you understand why you are who you are, and why that's a beautiful thing, not a character flaw. And I think everyone who knows an introvert should read this book, and quit trying to "fix us."Which means pretty much the entire country (or world) should read this book. The wealth of information and insights in this book cannot be overstated - especially if you are an introverted type of person who has always felt there was something not quite right about you, or that you somehow needed to change to fit in or succeed. This book will give you back yourself, and in my case, my life. Thank you, Susan Cain, from the bottom of my heart (which is finally beating at a more normal speed because I'm not panicked about going to work for the first time in months).Edited 11-13-14: It worked! I'm now working half-days at the office and half-days at home, and in a few weeks will transition to working from home full time. I never imagined that could happen. It's amazing what becomes possible when you finally realize you deserve what you already knew you needed.

I want to express gratitude to Ms. Cain for she has made it officially OK to be me. All my life, I've had this intangible feeling of being ‘wrong’ or ‘flawed’, or at the very least a minority in every walk of life. Only after my brother recommended this book to me do I finally feel worthy and acceptable (even, dare I say, valuable) for being an introspective person who thinks before speaking or taking action. I am not ‘weird’ or ‘shy’ or ‘anti-social’ as I have been labeled since childhood. Please forgive me for being too upfront or dramatic, but to put things in perspective I have made repeated attempts on my own life over the last 20 years and, not surprisingly, been plagued by severe, chronic, and recurrent depression and anxiety since early childhood. I believe this book has been a major turning point for me. No longer do I see myself as ‘broken’, ‘sick’, or ’hopeless’, but just an introvert in an extrovert's world. Since reading it, my mental health has improved drastically. And while I'll always have the tendency to be hard on myself, this book and its insights have allowed me to grant myself some compassion and room to breathe. Now I see my biggest ailment all along has been trying to fit into patterns of behavior which were fundamentally against my nature.A prime example from my life: I called myself weak if I had trouble working 50+ hours a week the way my peers seemed to do without problem. Then, just to meet expectations, I would force myself to go out after work with the same coworkers I had just spent all day around when what I truly wanted was time alone in order to decompress. What happened over and over again is I would push myself until I developed migraines or other physical symptoms. I ignored my body's signals, believed it was possible to deny my needs, and thought that pushing through the pain would be rewarded. No wonder I was so unhappy. If I feel like this, I know there must be others who do too.The research cited in this book show there are clear neurological differences in the way introverted brains process sensory information. Those findings told me that I truly am hard-wired this way. If the way I take in the world cannot ever be changed, then it's up to me to find the grace to say “This is just the way I am.”Today I realize I cannot change who I am at the core, but I can learn to love myself. It is also my duty to navigate through life in ways that are sustainable and healthy for me, and to disregard the ‘shoulds’ which were making me ill. We of this personality type can not only improve our own existences, but also possess the ability to make the world better and more well-rounded. Indeed, society can benefit from our unique perspective if it would only take the time to listen to our carefully-formulated and often soft-spoken contributions. So far I don't yet have a success story of how I have used this knowledge of myself to bring me from rags to riches. But I have moved away from traditional employment to more freelance work and flexible telecommuting positions. I hope that armed with this newfound self-acceptance I will eventually be able to make my introversion work for me, rather than pressuring myself to 'succeed' in spite of this trait. I guess I need to change my definition of success from financial wealth and externally recognized achievements, to one that centers around my internal balance and contentment day-to-day. I’m still a work in progress. For now, I try to do my part by reaching out to fellow introverts, recommending this book, and letting them know I find them beautiful just the way they are. And I make sure to plan alone time into my days and activities in order to maintain my mental stability. My wish for everyone who feels like an outsider is to read this book. Chances are you're just an introvert and either don't know it, or have been taught that extroversion is the only way. Once you become comfortable with yourself, the world and its possibilities will open up. Please read this book.

Most of my friends see me as an extrovert (or, what the literature calls an extravert). I'm not. Instead, I'm a deeply introverted individual. True, I worked hard to become a learned extrovert (the happiest people on the planet, by the way). Ironically, I worked way too hard, especially from 2003 to 2008. Eventually, it became extremely hard for me to be quiet around others. No wonder most of my friends say there's no way I could be a deeply introverted individual. In the opening chapters of her acclaimed book, QUIET, Susan Cain "proves" my secret identity is my real identity. If only she would write a new book helping jabberwockies like me learn how to be quiet around others, again. In the meantime, if you haven't read QUIET, please do. You'll benefit. Your family will benefit. Your friends and colleagues will benefit. Highly recommended!

Now a modern classic, Michael Green's "Evangelism in the Early Church provides a comprehensive look at the ways the first Christians -- from the New Testament period up until the middle of the third century -- worked to spread the good news to the rest of the world. In describing life in the early church, Green explores crucial aspects of the evangelistic task that have direct relevance for similar work today, including methods, motives, and strategies. He assesses the strengths and weaknesses of the evangelistic approaches used by the earliest Christians, and he also considers the obstacles to evangelism, using outreach to Gentiles and to Jews as examples of differing contexts for proclamation. Carefully researched and frequently quoting primary sources from the early church, this book will both show contemporary readers what can be learned from the past and help renew their own evangelistic vision.

After having New Testament survey classes in undergrad with Mark Given (who did his doctoral work with Bart Ehrman), this book has done much to help clarify what the teaching of the early church was over against the hyper-skepticism found in Ehrman's writings and lectures. The third chapter is especially helpful; it goes back to the earliest sources of Christianity, determines what this message of the Gospel entailed and then cross-references third-century sources (like Origen, etc.) to demonstrate that the message had not fundamentally changed.More than being an interesting history lesson, however, this book will stir you to share the news that Christ came to save sinners--and *you* qualify.

Well written and well documented expose on the kickoff of Christianity in the first century. Great perspectives, things I had never thought about, and things I never knew about the culture at that time. If you are well read in the Gospels and Church Epistles, and are trying to ramp up your impact as Christian today, you will greatly appreciate this book. It should be a companion manual for the practical Christian as they study the New Testament. I especially appreciate how the author recognizes and emphasizes the centrality and importance of Jesus, who he was then, and who he is to us now.The academians (?) can spout and sputter their hair-splitting conjecture based on their opinion of this text or that, but "it don't take no genius to confess Jesus as Lord and believe God raised him from the dead." It is written with the simple motive of helping the reader to strengthen themselves in the Lord.

excellent book

A classic that should be required reading for anyone wanting to understand the context of Early Church evangelism.

I found this book by reading J.P. Moreland's The Kingdom Triangle. Green comes from a great perspective as both a scholar and a practitioner. He believes that everyone should be a theologian and an evangelist and he wrote this book with an eye for both. His description of the situation in ancient Rome was fascinating, both things that helped the early evangelists and things that hindered them. His study of the way that the Apostles and early fathers preached the gospel has inspired me to do my own study in Acts.

Powerful book

Michael has studied church history and it shows in his observations.

Very interesting and informative. Great references.

Review

"This classic volume by two of the pioneers of modern public economics remains an essential reference for students of the field. The key theoretical results discussed in this volume―a number of which were discovered by the authors themselves―have stood the test of time and continue to be taught in public economics courses around the world, including my own course at Harvard."―Raj Chetty, Harvard University"Lectures on Public Economics remains the most comprehensive and deepest textbook on the subject. The discussions presented here offer very insightful views on the limits of tax theory analysis that cannot be found in pure research articles, and help guide students who want to carry out research of their own."―Emmanuel Saez, University of California, Berkeley"There is no other general textbook on public economics that comes close to the achievement of Atkinson and Stiglitz. The organization of the book, its level of analysis, and the clarity of the exposition are just right for graduate and advanced undergraduate students."―Frank Cowell, London School of Economics
