I'm pretty sure this book is what you think it is. It's researched well enough, well written, and mostly interesting. There were a few points of interest that I don't remember being covered in the Isaacson bio, which was necessary for me to enjoy this one, as there is a lot of overlap in the way Jobs's story is told in the two biographies. However, this one is mostly a surface rendering, which may suit you, depending on your reading habits. If you want to get a sense of a broader, more compelling narrative, I recommend Isaacson's biography of Jobs. I recommend this one to anyone with an interest in Jobs/Apple and not enough time or courage to pick up Isaacson's tome.

The book is well organized and well written. It provides the reader with an overview of Jobs' life and Apple origin and spectacular growth to become the giant that is today. On the other hand, it's unbelievable that a person with so many character flaws could achieve all the extraordinary goals that Jobs achieve on his life. Perhaps,it was his tenacity, visionary ideals and persistence to pursue perfection, and the way he view life , all traits that help him become a legend.

This book was assigned to me to read for my junior year in high school. I was surprised at how easily the book captured my attention considering I only read books when it is for a grade. I enjoyed the organization as well as the visuals the author provided (I even found myself googling early Apple products and commercials). Overall this is a smooth read and I finished earlier than I thought I would.

Great paperback book my husband wanted.. I read product description and compared to other books on Steve Jobs and this was exactly what I thought it was going to be when I received it. Very satisfied with this purchase.

I saw this book while visiting the US Space and Rocket Center, and was really captivated by it... except for price. So when I got home I checked Amazon and found it much cheaper so I ordered.This book will really appeal to space geeks like me. There are millions of books of spaceflight pictures, but this is the only one that revolves around the T-38 training aircraft that the astronauts use to train.The images are well reproduced and 98% are ones that have not been published before. Some of the images are from the ground and others are from the cockpit while in flight.Overall in the end this book is great and I look at it frequently since it sits on my coffee table. The book will appeal to space geeks, but if you like good photography of airplanes in general, you will enjoy this book as well!

WOW, phenomenal book! I met Story this past week when we was a guest speaker at our aerospace program. I was so fortunate as to receive an award presented by him and attend a small VIP dinner in his honor. His stories and his spirit absolutely enthralled me and my husband and I ordered this book as soon as we realized it existed. Definitely a must purchase for an aviation enthusiast, especially those who love the Talon. Best book purchase in a long time!

Wonderful combination of flight, art, and history. Bought this for my brother, who flew this wonderful machine for a few years while in the USAF. Did not come in shrink wrap, so I was able to look through it. Wow!

Oracle Database 12c PL/SQL Programming has met all of my expectations and more. There are plenty of great examples throughout the book that spark imagination and creativity. When you're wondering how something you've just read about works, you don't need to look vary hard to find an example to go with it. At the end of the chapters there are great questions to quiz yourself on as well. I have enjoyed, and continue to enjoy this book.

This book is really informative, but I just don't like the way it's laid out and it's riddled with errors and crappy copy and paste jobs that weren't correctly fixed for their new context. Unless you already know PL/SQL really well, I'd recommend some other PL/SQL book.

Michael McLaughlin... Need I say more?I'm a current student of Michael McLaughlin and love his way of teaching and his willingness to update his books to comply with industry standards and innovation. Recommended to all who have passion in learning PL/SQL programming and would like to learn it from the basic level to master.

Wonderful book, I was very impressed by how readable this book was. Many technical books tend to be dry and difficult to read, I felt that the author did a great job at making the book more like a technical conversation. I loved the metaphors used to describe different mechanisms in the oracle database environment, and the charts and images work wonderfully to help visualize how things fit together. Overall a great readable book.

This book goes into more details and it is easy to follow with clear explanations. I recommend it if you are serious about learning pl sql

The book is as described. It took awhile to follow the story lines, but beginning near the middle and through the end of the book, it came together very clearly and nicely. It gives a good understanding into the deaf education experience at a residential school, the Deaf culture and its intermingling among the hearing world, while also injecting humor and depicting the need to know the importance of ASL as a language in and with deaf individuals.

This book is excellent. It lets us see inside the Deaf World culture from the unique perspective of a hearing person who grew up in the Deaf World. I believe this book should be required middle/high school reading for all hearing students. This will lead to a greater understanding, appreciation and sensitivity, and subsequently beneficial policies and legislation in the future, toward the Deaf World and the unique challenges that Deaf people face.

This was a great book for understanding more about the deaf culture. It really helped me to realize more about how deaf people think, feel, and feel included or excluded in every day life.

The book is marvelous for its accurate insights into Deaf culture. It uses a Deaf residential school setting as the basis for the many subplots so we get an inside look at deaf people - It is an ingenious device. We see the various aspects of Deaf culture from many points of view as Ms. Cohen explores issues through the various characters in the book. All the characters are very interesting and fully drawn. You feel as though you know each one of them when you're done.I am a hearing man who has been involved in the Deaf community for over 30 years. I teach ASL at a college and have read just about all the books available on Deaf culture. This is the book that I now require for my level two students. It gives so much "inside" information about deaf people. And she does it through the many fascinating lives of each character, most of them deaf, a few hearing.If you are an ASL student or know a deaf person, you should definitely read this book. If your professor doesn't now about this book yet, tell him or her to read it. Even if you've never met a deaf person I think that you will find this to be a great read. It is breezy yet poignant and you keep turning the page to see what happens next to each person involved.

This is a great book about the Deaf community and the experience of a hearing person living in their world!

Another in a long line of Culture books on Deaf (and I probably have most of them). Quick read and interesting antidotes. If you don't want a textbook, this is a good choice.

This is a factual account of life as a deaf person.. I am hard of hearing myself. Iris an insightful book!

About the Author

Dr. Maxwell Maltz received his doctorate in medicine from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in 1923. After postgraduate work in plastic surgery in Europe, Maltz was appointed to head several departments of reparative surgery in New York hospitals over his long and distinguished career. He was a prominent international lecturer and on the psychological aspects of plastic surgery. He published two books on the subject, New Faces, New Futures and Dr. Pygmalion. In the 1950s, Maltz became increasingly fascinated by the number of patients who came to him requesting surgery, who had greatly exaggerated “mental pictures” of their physical deformities, and whose unhappiness and insecurities remained unchanged even after he gave them the new faces they desired. Maxwell Maltz was a plastic surgeon in the middle 1900's, and though his work miraculously transforms his patients' outward appearance, he discovers that his surgeries were effective on only a percentage of his patients as their internal picture of themselves had not been updated alongside the physical change. This book expounds upon the philosophy that the internal picture one carries in their mind's eye of themselves directly affects a person's sense of confidence and well being. As a boy I found this book in my dad's small library. Reading it helped me to see how we come to own facets of ourselves; unhealthy facets, that make us generally unhappy with ourselves. Disowning those facets is as simple as creating a new picture of oneself! I used the principles in his book to successfully walk away from smoking; simply picturing what my life would look like as a non-smoker. A well thought-out and articulate work from a very compassionate human being! As an homage to Maxwell Maltz; whom has so influenced my life (and obviously my health), I have cited his writings in my book for students, homeschoolers, self-teachers: "Take a Slice of Time." I'm barely on page 66 and couldn't wait to write a review. After only 66 pages my life is starting to turn around for the better. I've gotten a promotion at work and praises from family and friends over my willingness to act and striving for success. The principles applied in this book will change anyone open enough listen. Effort, willpower, man on the street white knuckling your way through is not the way. One must have a sense of surrender and instead of letting fear stand in tour way, put that fear behind you and let it push you forward. I can personally atest that this book works!

I've been on a self-help reading kick for about the past year. Between issues in my finances, health, relationships, career, I was being weighed down by it all. I've come across and read a lot from people like Jack Canfield, Joel Osteen, Law of Attraction - Teachings of Abraham, etc. They were all good, uplifting and helpful works in their own right, but something was missing. I was listening to a podcast and the host mentioned this book, which was something I've never heard about - ever or anywhere. I looked it up on Amazon and decided to order it. I am sure glad I did. For me, it brought all of the other ideas, concepts and practices together. Things like affirmations, burning desires, faith, action - they all are great, as long as they're operating in conjunction with the way you see yourself and want to see yourself. This book really stresses the importance of focusing on your self-image, which is something I've found many of the other works glossed over or lacked. It's a good work, laced with some biblical references which aren't overwhelming. If you can spend the money on it, it is certainly a great addition to your library. I've recommended it to everyone.

I was reading through the negative reviews outside of "get the old one" (which I agree with 100%). What I found was people being dissapointed in their boredom and the books repetition. Essentially I agree with them and I despise self proclaimed self help gurus (Wayne Dyer, Jack Canfield, Eckhart Tolle, etc) I was dragged into this mess of dillusional recipes for success by my wishful thinking father, who fell into Kevin Trudeau's GIN organization who pray on those wishing for an easy life. It was Kevin who on his 12 cd set (full of law of attraction garbage) recommended psycho cybernetics as a good read. At 18 with almost no desire to read or do much in life, with very low self esteem, and well intentioned, but incredibly selfish, unempathetic, stupid parents as guides I found this book gravitating. It's repeated messeges seemed to always say the right thing no matter what my current predicament. I've read this book dozens of times and I agree with the previous reviewer who said "all self help books can be boiled down into this book" and without the subtle sales crap (holy s*** I despise motivational speakers). Since reading this book I've read many many others but never finding any self help book fulfilling. This one perfects my perception of the word "genius" and has shaped my self esteem so. The concept of the Theatre of the Mind has changed my life, I'm an avid meditater and visualizer because of this book. This isn't wishful thinking, this is cognitive and habit training. It's imagination used practically. I think many other authors have helped me perceive the world the right way (Emerson, Bertrand Russell, MLK, Alan Watts, assorted others) but I believe Dr. Maltz gave me the tool that fit me perfectly. This practice gets better and more honest overtime, it takes alot of discipline to make it work, but when it does it works incredibly well."Do not wish for an easy life, wish for the strength to endure a difficult one" - Bruce Lee

I would read anything Rick Bragg wrote, even if he wrote it on toilet paper. I subscribe to Southern Living Magazine because Rick has an article each month. His words and and his manner of "speaking" cause me to feel like I'm living the story with him. When he writes about his mom, she's as real as though she's sitting right beside me. Love his books!

Rick Bragg has become our favorite author/journalist. The way he describes events transports you to where he is. In this book, a compilation of his New York Times articles, his poignant telling of stories about people that need to be told touches the heart and soul. He writes of people and places and events that we may, otherwise, never know about, but should be made aware of. Resiliency of the human spirit is the heart of this book and it is well worth reading.

I became a fan of Rick Bragg's after reading "Ava's Man". This book an autobiography. Mr. Bragg won a Pulitzer Prize for his writing. This book shows why. He truly is a gifted writer. I know he's 58, and is probably thinking of retiring, but I hope he writes more books. I would read them!

My wife and I are big fans of Rick Bragg so I don't know why we didn't have this book before now. Rick has an amazing way of capturing and conveying to his readers the true essence of real people. These stories bring the reader an understanding and involvement in events and places that we may never experience or even think about during our lives. His appreciation of and love for ordinary people and how their lives are lived just touches us deeply. As we travel through this country and meet new people we have a different view of and respect for the things that make America truly the greatest nation that has ever existed.

I collect Rick Bragg's writings. This is a sampling of his stories, ones that meant something particular to him. Particularly interesting are the ones that follow a news event over an extended period of time. Those are like reading a mystery novel, watching things unfold - many unexpected.

This is the third copy I’ve purchased. Two were gifts. I love beautiful writing and Mr. Bragg has a way of taking you on the journey.

Rick Bragg is my favorite author. He always makes me laugh, makes me cry, makes me think about people & places I probably will never encounter.He never disppoints. This book will be a keeper for my limited book shelf space.

Bought for my grandmother because she loves his articles in southern living. She loved this book, too. If you haven't read anything by Rick Bragg, you need to. He's my favorite author. All his books have been fantastic.
