Rachel’s poetry is amazing. Her radical self love and strength in knowing she is beautiful and worthy of love EXACTLY the way she is has impacted me at a core level. I demand that ever femme I know watch her perform her work and I gift her books every chance I get. Her poetry is the kind that will be the reason some young girl decides to keep fighting for one more day. I know her work has helped me learn to love myself a little more each day.

Rachel has a way with words and feelings that make you at times want to hug her and other times want to BE her. It's the joys and pain and all the relatable struggles that nobody talks about finally given voice through perfect prose. This is very necessary. Rachel Willey is life!

I read this the night that I got it and stayed up until I finished it. It was perfection. I even read one of the poems to a few of my friends on Snapchat. I am in love with this poetry book. Rachel Wiley is a phenomenal poet.

I'm a huge fan of Rachel Wiley's spoken word videos. There is so much passion in them I was afraid her book would fall flat but I was wrong. Being able to read the poems myself allowed me to savor every beautiful word and emotion. If you are a woman, an outsider, or existing between you want this book!

I devoured this book as soon as it arrived and found myself marking, re-reading, and highlighting so many things. It really resonated with me and I could relate to so much of it, but it also painted a vivid picture of someone that I don't know personally, and I love reading other people's stories and perspectives. I usually don't read a ton of poetry, but was drawn toward this book from social media links and am glad that I bought it.

Do yourself a favor and order this book right now! Rachel Wiley is brilliant. The only thing better are the videos on button poetry of her live readings. There is something relatable for everyone. “Halloween shopping with my niece” inspired a hilarious conversation with my 6 year old daughter on “the Patriarchy”. Her depth in just a few quick stanzas is not only impressive it’s inspiring. Be yourself unapologetically and take sh*t from no one.

Rachel Wiley's poetry is simply amazing.She is sharp, blunt, even harsh when needed, and I can guarantee that you will find at least one or two poems you can totally relate to (but probably much more than that). Her words have the power to make you smirk and nod your head, but also to look deeply into yourself and into the world around you. They vary from outburst of rage and frustration, to pungent critiques of society (always extremely spot on). In case you haven't already, go find her performances on facebook or youtube: the way she reads her poems is incredibly passionate and moving.

I've enjoyed every poem from this book. It's like holding up a dark twisted mirror up to society, and it actually has its funny moments. I highly recommend looking up the author on YouTube and watching some of her readings; they're pretty powerful.

I picked this book solely on the cover. I didn't know anything about the artist. I pleasantly surprised so put it mildly. The artwork is beautiful. Her tips are very much appreciated. The design, printing, and packaging are well done. Completely satisfied.

I'm a Loish art fan, but if you don't know her, you'll learn to love her when you read this book. Unlike most artists, she's not afraid of showing where she started... and how she has grown along the way. Her story/journey, from her early art sketches to professional illustrations is absolutely inspiring! And there's more art images in this 151-page book than you usually find, including sketches/storyboards/samples of her progress along the way. Even has short stories about her inspirations, struggles and successes. Plus lots of sharing, including personal tips and tricks, client concepts and a simple tutorial about how she uses Photoshop. If you are a wanna-be digital artist... or just like to look at how another artist works... I think you'll love "The Art of Loish" book. I sure do!:)

This book is not full of tutorials. I was a bit disappointed when the majority of the book is more of motivation and about Loish's journey. The downside to this book, this is more of about Loish then it is to help you with art. In the details, it says that offers methods but I felt they were loose info and didn't have enough explanation or detail. "Following this, the reader will learn how she developed her very distinctive style and discover advice as she discusses her working methods, offering tips on a variety of techniques that she utilizes in her art every day! " You can find this info online with some of her interviews or her social media. The art is great as always. Is it worth the buy? Personally, no in the sense of giving information. Yes in the sense of having her work in a book form.

I JUST got this book and only flipped through it at a quick glance because I was so excited, I couldn't just sit down and read the whole thing. Already my art dramatically improved just from looking at the digital coloring tutorial. (You can probably guess I didn't know what the heck I was doing with my art) now I'm coming from a background of amatuar digital artist that started about a year ago. If you're someone who has taken classes or has been doing digital/traditional art for years, I'm 100% positive you can and will improve from looking at some of the tips and tutorials. Now, it isn't filled to the brim with tutorials, its mainly art and her talking about her journey. But I think the journey in itself is like an unspoken lesson. I learned that taking critism isn't an attack and that even if you believe the work you've done is what you were aiming for, you can ALWAYS improve and create something that visually appealing to you and your viewers. The world is your best teacher and exaggerating certain parts help you create your own artistic style.

Amazing book by an amazing artist. Loish clearly shows her process, her inspiration, and so much more. I think out of all the artbooks out there, this is definitely one every artist needs. Don't hesitate, support this spectacular artist AND get an extremely well made and informative book while you're at it!

Absolutely love this book!! I love loish as a creator, as an artist, as a person and this book really gives you a look into her process as well as her past as an artist. It's a fun and wonderful book for anyone who loves her style and what she creates. I would recommend this book to any young illustrators or artist interested in a fun and informative book. As for more experienced artist this book is perfect for understanding how she makes her specific work in her style so keep that in mind when purchasing. Still loved this book, great for referencing when I need inspiration and for giving me tips!

Gorgeous art and lots of pages compared to other art books (over a hundred, I believe). Very prettily put together and includes writing about her inspiration, her process, her art slumps, as well as a couple of tutorials in the back. About the Author

DIANA SOUTHWOOD KENNEDY went to Mexico in 1957 to marry Paul P. Kennedy, the foreign correspondent for the New York Times. In 1969, at the suggestion of Craig Claiborne, she began teaching Mexican cooking classes and in 1972 published her first cookbook. She has been decorated with the Order of the Aztec Eagle, the highest honor bestowed on foreigners by the Mexican government. I’m attempting to cook my way through this a la Julia and Julie. The Masa Fantasies chapter is worth the price of the book. I’ve made all but the recipes calling for jellied pigs feet and calves brains(I’m sure they are great; but some biases are difficult to overcome.). My favorite is the Panuchos.Next up: the tortillas chapter.

Ms. Kennedy writes the recipes in her book clearly, and I have found them generally easy to follow. She does a good job of highlighting regional flavors in the book, and provides a broad scope of ingredients and dishes. I jump back to this book quite often in search of ideas for meal planning. For the most part, I'm an experimental cook, and The Essential Cuisines of Mexico provides a good framework to play around in.

Better reserves for advanced cooks. Too complicated and complex for novices. No pictures or sketches to show what the end recipe should look like, and some ingredient lists are vague, ie "chicken" ?? How much?

I was looking for a gift for a friend that loves cooking and likes Mexican food. This book caught my attention while reading from the "look inside" option.I am from Mexico City and I have lived in the US for 10+ years. Fortunately there are amazing cookers in my family so I can always call someone back home whenever I am unsure about a recipe, or whenever I crave for something I haven't had in a looong time and just saw in a movie. Sometimes my relatives that live near me will correct me without me having to ask them for help because they saw I was about to make the awful mistake of not boiling the tomatoes first or because I was about to use the wrong pepper... 'Even when I can translate for my friends the recipes they ask me for, sometimes I just don't know how to explain certain details to them. It is even harder when some of those friends have never been anywhere in Mexico, because they don't have any reference point to compare good from not-so-good to bad Mexican food.What I am trying to say is that I know as a fact that it is not easy to find reliable books written in English for explaining Mexican food. And while I was reading through the selected pages in the "preview" of this book, I got a big smile on my face, and -to tell you the truth- I also felt very nostalgic. The author describes with such a good recollection of details places where I've been and food I've ate that I just started craving for all those places and foods out of sudden.I bought the book and when it got to my house I devoured it within days. I started making bookmarks, and to highlight information I found helpful. I did not know for example that "Cazuelas ... are not suitable for an electric burner" (page 460). I bought another copy for my friend (she loves it too!).This book has given me the ability to transport to so many different places without having to leave my own kitchen at home! I am planning on buying few more copies as I can, and give them as a Christmas or birthday presents for some of my other friends that love cooking, and have a tooth for Mexican flavors. BTW, my husband (he is American) has been cooking some of the recipes in this book and he loves them! He has mentioned to me: this taste like that dish we ate when we were on so-and-so place in Oaxaca; these taste like the tacos we ate at the mercado near you mom's house!

This is a very good update to Diana Kennedys Essential Cusines. It contains some new recipes and follows her pattern of giving the place or name of whoever contributed the recipe. It is very complete, authentic and reliable. She really knows her subject. The only complaint I have is that sometimes she lists ingredients that are impossible to find. The other problem is the size of the recipe, as sometimes it seems it for a bunch of people. However these are not that important and I highly recommend this cookbook.

`The Essential Cuisines of Mexico' is Diana Kennedy's Mexican answer to Julia Child's `Mastering the Art of French Cooking'. It has a similar style and quality and, like Child's encounter with French cooking, it came about as a result of her marriage to a husband who was posted to Mexico by his newspaper, `The New York Times' as their Caribbean / Mexican correspondent. This, plus a little help from New York Times colleague and friend, Craig Claiborne lead Ms. Kennedy to start teaching Mexican cooking and prompting her to write a book on the subject.There are two big differences between this book and Ms. Child's `magnum opus'. The first is that this volume is an amalgam of three earlier books, while `...French Cooking' was a distillation from a manuscript at least twice the size of the final published volume. The second major difference is that while Ms. Child is documenting `cuisine bourgeois', Ms. Kennedy is looking at Mexico's `cuisine provincial'. This is highlighted by the fact that the geographical home of all recipes is cited, and the geographic specifics are given for all the major ingredients cited in the appendix.The three earlier books being combined here are `The Cuisines of Mexico', `The Tortilla Book', and `Mexican Regional Cooking'. The author also states that some new material has been added to the recipes from these three books. To my eye, the integration of the three volumes is seamless. The author and her editors have not simply pasted the three volumes together, they have merged all the material to create a single work easily superior to the original three.By the time this book was published, it should be evident to the English speaking world at large that Ms. Kennedy has some serious competition from Chicagoan, Rick Bayless in the world of Mexican culinary authorities. Just as Ms. Kennedy presents recipes very similar to fellow amateur Julia Child and fellow `culinary archeologist' Paula Wolfert, chef Bayless does a much more analytical approach to Mexican cuisine, deconstructing dishes into their component parts in `Rich Bayless' Mexican Kitchen' and giving us multiple versions of important dishes in `Mexico One Plate at a Time'.In spite of these differences, Ms. Kennedy and Mr. Bayless agree on virtually everything important when they address the same subjects. The most important point on which they agree is the central place of Oaxaca as, to coin a phrase, the Provence of Mexican cuisine. On which author to prefer, if you are a fan of Mexican dishes, buy both authors, bypassing the earlier books which were folded into the current volume and also bypassing Mr. Bayless' `Salsas That Cook' as there is some overlap with `Rick Bayless's (sic) Mexican Kitchen'. If you are a culinary professional, Mr. Bayless may be just a bit more useful. If you simply want lots of good recipes, go with Ms. Kennedy. Also, Ms. Kennedy probably has the edge when it comes to giving recipes for Mexican baking, as that is one of her special interests. And, if that is where your strongest interest lies, go for her latest book, `From My Mexican Kitchen'. On which writer is more `authentic' I am taking it on faith that both authors are incredibly faithful to the tastes and the spirit of the Mexican originals while being very considerate of their gringo audience's kitchen equipment and skills.The one thing about which one may be disappointed in this book, based on the title, is that there is very little discussion of general regional differences. There is not even a dusty little map of Mexico and its regions. This is surprising in that, for example Penelope Casas includes a map of Spanish regions in all her major cookbooks and Diane Kochilas includes one in her excellent book on Greek cuisines. And, both authors give us recipes by region. Ms. Kennedy's omission is doubly puzzling as chef Bayless' first book, `Authentic Mexican' opens with a very good map of Mexican regions. This, of course, is only important if you are really interested in regionality, as when you plan to travel to Mexico. If all you want is recipes, this consideration is of no importance.Following the model of her spiritual mentor, Julia Child, Ms. Kennedy's recipes are exceptionally well written. To those of us for whom this is important, note that all volumetric measurements are given in both English and metric units. And, Ms. Kennedy's admonition on careful measurement, regardless of the unit, is well taken. In spite of the fact that these are interpretations of very provincial recipes, Ms. Kennedy goes to great lengths to add warnings and suggestions regarding what can be prepared in advance, what should be served immediately, and what can be refrigerated or frozen safely, without loosing flavor or texture.This book is not compulsively chatty, if that is something which annoys you. Many recipes have short headnotes, but not all recipes do. The overall book is organized by type of recipe, which makes it ideal for quick reference. In that regard, it is much better than Mr. Bayless PBS tie-in volumes. I went directly to the egg recipe chapter and was greeted immediately with the familiar `Huevos Rancheros', only to discover that Ms. Kennedy does anticipate Mr. Bayless a bit (and copies her Julia Child model as well) by separating the Salsa Ranchera recipe from the egg recipe with citations in the Salsa recipe for the dishes in which it is used.I do not miss pictures in cookbooks, but if you do, go for Bayless' first book, `Authentic Mexican'. Otherwise, if you simply need Mexican recipes, pick this book first, especially as Ms. Kennedy is a better and more engaging writer than chef Bayless in his first book. My only real regret with this book is that there is no `analytical' listing of recipes by Mexican region. Otherwise, this is a real classic!

This book has a lot of great information and recipes, but I find a lot of recipes to be vague. I am a professional chef and sometimes even I'm not clear on exactly what she means or how much of something to use.

This book does a great job of laying out the particulars of one of the greatest mysteries of the last century. I have a much better grasp now of what actually occurred to these nine who died with no explanation. There have been many theories on what happened at the Dyatlov Pass but I can't say any other book lays out the details as nicely as Death of Nine. And while there is a ton of detail here the book is an easy read. The author lays out the specifics on the individuals who died, their routes, how they went about their days, what they did prior to passing and what investigators found - and didn't find. If you remotely think you might like to know more about the the Dyatlov Pass mystery don't pass on this book. As a side note this book is a great looking book in hand. It has the look and feel of a book from years past which helps take you take you back to this simpler time of this tragedy.

If you have paid any attention to the Dyatlov Pass incident, you have heard halfway sensible ideas and far-fetched ones including Bigfoot and space invaders.No solution can be made in the absence of all the evidence, and Russia continues to keep some of it locked up. But Anderson, who at least has the grace to admit he doesn't know it all, presents the most sensible ideas so far, based on what evidence is available.Well written and information packed, this is a book to be proud of.Recommended for readers of Forteana who are not afraid to have some of their balloons punctured,,and those who care about the history of the Cold War.

This book is particularly informative as it gives details and diagrams of the autopsy findings of the nine victims. These findings tended to convince me that these were murders carried out by human beings. Theories involving UFO's, Russian military experiments, avalanches, sound waves, Yeti, etc. seem far fetched. The idea that the Mansi tribal members were responsible as they were enraged by the group trespassing on their sacred religious ground is dismissed as that would be totally inconsistent with the previous behavior of the Mansi. There was the usual official Russian behavior to suppress the investigation and to hurry the conclusion that the deaths were due to "overwhelming force." The author of this book states his THEORY as to the cause of the murders is speculative but it is highly interesting. I recommend this book highly.

This is clearly well compiled and thought out. While I don’t necessarily agree or disagree with the conclusion the author presents, her argument is well reasoned. The only substantial improvement I would suggest for her next nonfiction book is citations and a bibliography. This would help strengthen her Dyatlov case as well. That aside, she’s a good writer and she has more than convinced me she’s looked at this from lots of angles.

The 1959 deaths of 9 young Russian "tourists" (hikers) in winter has been the subject of many books. I have read all of them with great interest, and I feel this book comes very close to solving the mystery. Mr. Anderson discusses all of the popular theories and takes a deep look at the autopsy results and and reveals shocking patterns. The book is well-written and I recommend it to anyone who has pondered the baffling deaths of these exceptional people.

Very concise account of the Dyatlov murder. The author presents an extremely well thought out case for foul play from an external source being the cause of this mysterious death of the 9 hikers. Very fact based and closing theories are well thought out.

A good review of the incident with evidence summarized in detail. The conclusion seem more plausible than some I have read--no yetis. The only negative is that the typeface is small on my Kindle and apparently cannot be adjusted.

This is my favorite book, of a few, that I have purchased on the Dyatlov Pass incident. It is less so for the beginner, and rather more so for the intermediate student of the incident. In the book Mr. Anderson includes much detail, along with numerous superb photos, and even of the bodies. Full autopsies are at the back, along with Anderson's summary and discussion of them in the main part of the book. The bodies ended up to be key evidence, of course. Theories as to what happened are examined, along with an introduction to each of the nine hikers. All in all, a superb book on the incident and highly recommended.
