I bought this book mainly for students to prepare for the HiSet math test. The reviews were very good so when it arrived, I was shocked to see there were no pretests and no real step-by-step teaching or practice materials. The review materials seem highly condensed and may be excellent for a student who was once proficient and just needs a refresher. But it's hard to see how this book would benefit a struggling student with significant gaps in their skills, since there is no step-by-step presentation of mathematical procedures, followed by exercises to drive the new skills home. It's wonderful that it includes full-length practice tests for each area, but, speaking just of the math, if I kid got stuck on a problem in the practice exam, I don't think he could find the help he needed to solve the problem in the body of the text. As other reviewers have noted, it is VERY text heavy (though the writing is high quality and packed with information) with few illustrations to lighten things up. On the other hand, I am just starting to use the book in the classroom, and that will be a better test of its usefulness. If it turns out to be a winner with the students, hopefully I will say so. One noteworthy feature is that the book comes with access to many videos which can be viewed on the Mometrix website. You could not ask for easier videos to get to, just two simple steps.
I purchased this book, along with another well known HiSet book and found that I often used the other book, because it seemed easier to follow. That meaning, the other book seemed to have easier questions.I purchased this book after already passing 4 of the 5 battery of tests. All I had left was math, my worst subject. I wanted a book that had practice tests, and this one did.Today I went to take my final exam. I felt that the questions in this book were much more real to the actual test questions. I have been out of school for 30 years, so this was not an easy task for me. I ended up passing and will be receiving my diploma soon!If you are torn between which HiSet book to purchase,I would suggest this one. The math questions are harder, much like the actual test.
I really love this book I use it all the time its very good for any hiset takers, it has a lot of details and it covers a lot of subjects, I had a science test last week and I passed because of this book its really my favorite I love how in the reading chapter its just covers anything and have all explanation needed . I gave my teacher the same book and he really loved it!!

I purchased the HiSET Secrets Study Guide: HiSET Test Review for the High School Equivalency Test and the Flash Card Study System for my grandson. We have been using them for a week and believe them to be the best for test preparation. So far I would rate the 5 out of 5 stars. The book is easy to read and well organized and the flash cards are informative and fun as we discuss them.
